Dev nodded. “I would be careful next time. He’s been placing bets like his life depended on it. Something’s about to happen and I don’t think it’s going to be good.”

I looked at the guys, they also looked suspicious of him, but I would take any info on Lucio, if it meant us being better prepared for him.

“Thanks man,” Nathan said, nodding at him and going to the truck. He took Jane with him, helping her into the back seat. I walked around the truck, close to Dev.

“I would be careful with her too,” he said, nodding at the truck. “Bringing her around is dangerous. He likes pretty things until he uses them up and throws them away like trash.”

I exhaled. “You obviously don’t know how stubborn this woman can be.” I opened the door to the truck, ready to leave, but I turned around. “Thanks for watching out for us. I appreciate it.”

“I did it for her, not for you guys, to be honest.” He walked around his Impala. “I would just be careful if she has to come. I can help.”

“What’s in it for you?” I asked curiously.

He shrugged. “I have seen what happens to women who get too close to Lucio, and I heard he was interested in her. You guys are all on his radar.”

“Thanks for the information. If you need anything, let us know. I’m sure Jane would help patch you up if you needed it. Get my info from Evan.”

I got into the truck, grimacing at the pain.

“Everything ok?” Aiden asked, looking in the rearview mirror.

“Yeah,” I said, not wanting to get into it with Jane here. No need to worry her, but I needed the guys to know what we were dealing with.

The drive home was quiet the entire time, I was hoping Lucio’s men weren’t following us. The moment we got home, I tried to get out of the truck quickly and the pain that radiated from my side made me lose my vision for a second or two.

“Callum, can we please take you to the hospital? I just want to make sure…” I shook my head, interrupting her. “Callum, please?” Her pleading and the look on her face made me feel like giving in.
