“What did you expect? You set him against a fucking professional. If you want a professional, then go find one and not Cal.” Aiden stood in front of me. “They kicked that guy out of MMA because he was a shady fucker, and he almost took Cal out because he is a dishonest fuck.” Most men would feel insecure having their friend stand up for them, but I couldn‘t care less. Lucio feared Aiden for whatever reason, always wary of him and I was glad for it.
“Oh please, Cal, you could have won that fight with a hand tied behind your back.” Lucio brushed off his comment. “I almost lost fifty thousand tonight.”
“I hope a third of that is mine and goes to my debt,” I snapped, knowing I only got a small portion of the profit. This was complete fucking bullshit, but I was at his mercy.
“Next time make sure you fucking win, Callum. I bet too much money on you for you to fucking lose.” Lucio tried to walk past Aiden, but he wasn’t letting him get close to me. Nathan also stood by Aiden. My best friends made a wall and if I didn’t have Jane’s hand in my own, I knew she would stand in front of me too.
“Next time give him a fight with someone who’s in his weight category instead of someone who has more experience, and at least fifty pounds of muscle on them.” Aiden sneered at Lucio, and for a second I worried he was going too far.
Lucio looked between Aiden and Nathan, trying to figure out something. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, getting a terrible feeling as he was assessing them. “Make sure next time you’re fucking better. I better not lose any money on you, Callum,” Lucio barked, turned, and walked out of the room.
“That man is plotting something,” Jane said, and I was glad I wasn‘t the only one who thought that.
“Let’s get the fuck out of here before he does something really fucking stupid.” Nathan grabbed my bags, and we left for the truck. As we were leaving the club, walking in the parking lot, we noticed a figure leaning against a car next to ours.
I pushed Jane in between all of us, as we got closer to the truck, seeing Dev leaning on a Chevy Impala. “Can we help you?” Aiden asked, looking around.
“You had some guys sniffing around your car, pretty sure it was a couple of Lucio’s guys,” Dev said, looking around as well.
I tensed at his words, not knowing if he was telling the truth, or he was trying to play with us.
“Thanks, Dev.” Jane surprised me.
