“I see you’ve all had time to get over your disagreement, and I’m happy to see you’ll be taking care of my best fighter,” he said, grinning like he had just won the Powerball. “Maybe I need to put you on my payroll for my other fighters.”

“Did you need something, Lucio?” Callum snapped.

A look of irritation crossed his face before he smoothed his expression into a smile. “I just want to see how you are doing.”

“I’m fine. I still need to warm up a little more.” Callum said, with irritation.

“He still needs to loosen up and make sure his head is in the game. Do you need anything else?” Aiden, always the diplomat.

“I was hoping Jane would be here because I have a fighter who is about to go on; he doesn’t have anyone who can attend to him.”

“Jane is here for me,” Callum said, looking deadly.

“I think she can speak for herself.” Lucio looked at me.

“Uh… I’m not here for anyone else. I’m only here for Callum,” I said firmly. I didn’t want him to get the idea he could change my mind.

“I can pay handsomely,” he hissed, trying to change my mind.

“Thanks, but no,” I said with a bite to my voice. “I don’t need your money.”

“Five thousand off Callum’s debt,” he said, surprising me. I hesitated because I’ve been wanting to help Callum so much and maybe this was the way.

“No,” Callum growled. “I don’t need help to pay my debt.”

I opened my mouth to say something, and Callum cut me off. “No.” Now he was looking at me and I was stuck. I wanted to help, but he was so stubborn. I looked at Aiden, with his emotionless mask, hiding his true feelings. He didn’t dare say anything, but I could see he really didn’t want me to do it. I looked at Nathan next, and he gave me a subtle nod.

“No,” Callum snapped.

“I think we should really let the lady decide.” Lucio knew he had me trapped.

“Ten thousand off his debt.” I countered.

Lucio stared at me, nodding his head. “Seven.”

“Ten.” I wasn‘t going to do it for less. “And Nathan comes with me.”

Lucio looked irritated. If he wanted me to help, I was going to get what I wanted. I wasn’t budging, betting he needed me more than he was letting on.

“Eight, final offer,” he said, giving me a look of indifference.

“Jane,” Callum said, walking towards me.
