She couldn’t remember a time when she’d ever been kissed so thoroughly. At least not with any clothes on. It had felt…She wasn’t sure. All she knew was that she hadn’t wanted it to end.

The scandalous, R-rated meeting of tongues that had taken place was nowhere near the sweet kiss she’d expected. Maybe it was the spontaneity of the steamy kiss, but it hadn’t felt like a pretend one, and the way he’d touched her hadn’t felt very friend-like.

Instead, she felt like he’d stripped her bare with only his mouth. As if she should be restoring her clothing to order even now, although it wasn’t even necessary. When their lips had touched, everything in the room had disappeared. The room itself had disappeared. Nothing had existed beyond her and Adam.

If they hadn’t been in a public—

Oh.

Blinking away the lust-filled haze, Preslee gazed around the room to see a bar full of people staring at her. Lovely.

Even her female friends were all looking in her direction with raised brows. Yeah, they would definitely have some questions later. Especially after she’d sworn that she and Adam were nothing more than friends.

And they were.

He’d only been pretending, and the kiss hadn’t meant anything. But damn him for being a star performer. Someone should give him an Oscar. Because even she was having a hard time convincing herself that the kiss hadn’t been real.

It had felt real. Like something special. Meaningful.

Yet she knew better. Adam was helping her with Josh, that was all. Her eyes darted around the room again to find the rest of the bar still staring at them. Including Josh. He was sitting with that other woman, but he was glaring awfully hard in Preslee’s direction. And he didn’t look happy.

His mouth formed a tight line, and his narrowed eyes shot daggers from across the room. He looked…jealous? Strange, since he was the one who had been flirting with another woman right in front of her and then abandoned her to go hang out at the woman’s table. What did he have to be jealous about?

In the past, Preslee had all but begged for his attention, and he hadn’t given it. Not once. Not until tonight. When it had been convenient. But now that he wanted to give her attention, she was annoyed by it.

She glanced over at Adam, who was wearing a devilish grin.

“I, ah…” She didn’t know what to say. “Seems we had an audience for that spectacular performance.”

He licked his lips and grinned. “Can you blame them? That kiss was pretty hot.”
