Preslee didn’t want to admit that she was falling for her trainer, but dear God…she was. He challenged her to be a better person and constantly showed her what true kindness was about. He was consistent, reliable, and honorable. A true man. One she could depend on and trust implicitly.
And knowing all of that left her utterly speechless.
He gazed over their group and smiled. “I have to meet my other client soon, but you ladies have fun. And thanks for coming in. I hope to see you all on a regular basis.”
As Adam walked away, silence reigned amongst them. For several moments, they all stared at her slack-jawed, eyes blinking. Finally, Valerie cleared her throat and smirked. “Just friends, huh?”

The next evening, Adam leaned against the bar with one elbow, dangling a longneck bottle between two fingers. He lifted it to his mouth and tipped it back, taking a long pull of his beer before setting it on the bar. Then he glanced around the crowded room.
When he’d first heard Logan and Valerie were hosting Brett and Sydney’s reception at Bottoms Up, he didn’t think it was a good idea. The reception was an invite-only event that was to be closed to the public, but Saturdays were always the busiest night of the week for the popular bar. He thought for sure they would lose money.
But when he’d arrived, Adam couldn’t help but grin. The bar was brimming with the same locals who usually frequented the bar. Go figure. Guess that was the thing about small towns. All of your neighbors are your friends.
In fact, the only person Adam hadn’t spotted in the bar yet was Preslee. Then again, he’d overheard someone say that some of the ladies had gone home to change before heading to the reception. Maybe she was one of them.
Kurt stood next to him, eyeing a pretty brunette as she passed by. “Damn. There’s some hot women in here tonight.”
Adam nodded. “Sounds like you’re hoping to take one home with you.”
“Well, yeah. Aren’t you?”
Adam shook his head. “Hell no. That’s your thing, not mine.”
“What’s my thing? Sex?” Kurt asked, his brows drawing together. “Since when do you not like sex?”
“No, I’m talking about one-night stands. Next to my brother, you’re the king of them. However, I’m not interested.”
Kurt’s eyes narrowed. “Oh, give me a break. Like you’ve never had one.”
“I didn’t say that. But doing something once or twice isn’t the same as doing it all the time.” God. Counting his neighbor, his brother, and his best friend, he was surrounded by man whores.
His friend shrugged. “Don’t knock it until you try it.”
