Adam had been the one who’d suggested making the deal to begin with. If he found the whole idea of flirting with her that damn repulsive, then maybe he should’ve thought about that before opening his big mouth.

It wasn’t like she was looking forward to him pretending to like her any more than he was. Okay, maybe that was a lie. She liked the idea of him flirting with her. She just wanted it to be real. Because the whole idea of him fake flirting with her only made her feel more pathetic than she already did.

It was embarrassing enough that Adam felt the need to flirt with her just so she could get another man’s attention. Scratch that. Force himself to flirt with her. Because judging by Adam’s response as he stomped away, that was exactly what he’d be doing.

She hadn’t at all been prepared for the weird vibe he’d given off, and it had completely caught her off guard. Now she regretted even bringing it up. Well, she learned her lesson there and definitely wouldn’t do it again.

Preslee caught movement out of the corner of her eye and glanced over to see Leah, Valerie, Jessa, and Sidney heading in her direction. The other four women were still registering at the main desk, but judging by the way they smiled adoringly at the two handsome men helping them, none seemed to mind being left behind.

Leah glanced back and grinned. “I think they’re going to be a while. They found some pretty men to look at.”

Preslee giggled. “Well, I guess that’s one way to get your blood pumping.” She swallowed hard, remembering all the times her heart had pounded faster whenever Adam had gotten close to her. The man seemed to have that effect on females. In fact, Kurt did too. “Why don’t we go ahead and start working out? The others can join in when they get through.”

“Sounds good to me,” Sidney said. “Lead the way.”

Choosing to stay together, all of them climbed on machines in the same area so they could each see and hear the others. Three ladies jumped on treadmills while Preslee and Valerie opted for the rowing machines that sat across from them.

“So this is where you’ve been hanging out, huh?” Sidney asked.

Preslee nodded. “Only in the evenings and during the days on the weekends.”

“Well, it’s definitely paid off,” Leah told her. “You look great. You have such a healthy glow.”

Jessa smirked. “I have a feeling that glow isn’t all because of her workouts. Did you guys see her trainer?” She turned her attention to Preslee. “Max said you’ve been working out with Adam.”

She nodded. “Yep, for the past month.”

“Which one is Adam?” Leah asked.

“The dark-haired one,” Valerie explained.
