Adam’s head lifted and then he glanced at his watch. “Hey, you’re here early today. We weren’t supposed to meet until six o’clock.”

“I know,” she said with a sigh. “But…well, something sort of came up. Sorry for the last-minute notice, Adam, but I won’t be able to train with you later.”

“Okay. Is something wrong?”

“No, it’s just that we’re apparently holding an impromptu bachelorette party for Sidney today,” she said, motioning to the gaggle of women standing at the front desk. “I didn’t know about it until just a little while ago. It all happened really fast.”

He nodded. “Ah, I see. But I thought Brett and Sidney decided that they weren’t doing those. Did that change?”

“Yeah. From what Valerie told me, her brother didn’t want to have a bachelor party because he was afraid that some of his single friends would take things too far.”

Adam grinned. “You mean like with strippers and drinking?”

Preslee raised both palms. “I guess so. She said he was trying to avoid any issues. Probably smart on his part. Things can quickly get out of hand whenever alcohol is involved.”

“No kidding. And Brett should know. He liked to party pretty hard back in the day. Hell, some of his single friends still do. But Brett isn’t like that anymore. He’s changed.”

“I know. But Sidney didn’t want her husband to have to give up having a bachelor party all because a few of his friends don’t know how to control themselves. So the married couples got together and planned out both parties. That way neither of them miss out. You only get married once, right?”

Adam’s gaze met hers. “If you’re lucky.”

“Yeah,” she said, her heart thumping. Then she sighed, banishing the crazy thoughts swirling in her head. It wasn’t like she would marry Adam. But some lucky girl would one day. Damn it.

“So what are the men doing today?”

She paused. “Didn’t someone call you? Jessa said they were going to invite you and Kurt.”

Adam pulled his cellphone out of his pocket and checked it. “Damn it. Yeah, Max called me a couple of times and left a message. I forgot I turned my ringer off earlier while working with a client. I’ll call Max back in a minute.”

“Well, if you can’t get ahold of him, let me know. Leah can tell you how to get to her house. The guys apparently all gathered at Sam’s to play poker. I’m sure they would love for you to join them.”

Adam shook his head. “Unfortunately, I can’t. I still have a client I have to meet with at five. But there’s no reason why Kurt shouldn’t go and have a good time. I can keep an eye on things during my next training session.”

“That’s nice of you.”
