Chapters (36)
“That’s a lie,” her eyes flash so bright with anger that I have to avert my gaze, unable to look directly at her. “You wanted control over Neverland. You always wanted control over all of us.”
“I wanted Peter,” I yell back, forcing myself to look back her way even if it kills me. Pan tenses under my touch. Tink’s jaw clenches as she looks back toward him and studies his reaction to the name I just called him. “I would have taken him any way I could have had him.”
“Another lie.”
“You’ve always just been jealous,” I snap, entirely through with her wrongful assessment.
Her jealous hate still burns bright after all these years. She always got it wrong, what was between Peter and me. She was always too filled with envy, jealousy, to see anything but Peter’s denial of her when all she ever sought was his approval. Out of the corner of my eye I see Pan turn my way, but my gaze is locked on the Fairy in front of me.
Her eyes widen, she’s obviously shocked that I’m actually standing up for myself. Before she can respond I go on, “You always wanted Peter for yourself. Always saw me as a threat when you didn’t even bother to realize that I wasn’t the only danger to your games on the island. Tiger Lily…”
“Was never a threat,” she cuts me off laughing. “Still isn’t a threat.”
She smiles, and there is something behind her grin that makes my attention snap to Pan, but he looks indifferent, unaffected, so I let it slide.
“You’re not welcome here,” Tinker Bell shouts, making my attention snap back her way. “You never were. You need to leave, before I’m forced to make you, Darling.”
The name that falls from her lips mocks me in a way that has me taking a step back. It hurts, somewhere so deep inside that it makes me back down from her when I promised myself that if I ever returned to Neverland, I never would.
That ends now.
Grabbing the hook at Pan’s waist, I slip it from its resting spot before he can stop me and take a step forward. Tinker Bell’s eyes flare with anger, worry even, for only a small, brief moment before a malicious smile spreads across her lips.
“And what do you plan to do with that?” she snickers.
My hand shakes slightly as I take another step in her direction, but it’s not because I’m scared. It’s because my body is teetering on the edge of control from finally doing something I should’ve done a long time ago. Standing up for myself. Especially when it comes to Tinker Bell or Tiger Lily.
“End you,” I hear myself hiss. “The only way I know how.”
