I nod quickly, my hand rubbing the spot that hit the wood. I feel a warm wetness and pull my hand away, noticing blood staining my fingers. Peter glances down just as I see Jake begin to move across the room. Looking back, Peter’s eyes find mine and the small piece of light that I held onto a moment ago completely goes black. His jaw ticks as he pulls his dagger from his hip. On a loud crow like I’ve never heard from him before, he turns quickly and charges Jake.

They both fall backward; this time Peter pins our attacker in place. He holds his weapon up to his throat and Jake tries to force his grip back with all his might, but it pierces his skin and I instantly hear Jake scream out in pain.

I look up just as the nurse rushes into the room. She takes one look at the madness that’s unfolding, her eyes widening in fear, and then dashes off down the hallway, screaming for the guards.

“No!” I yell after her, rushing to the door and feeling my foot trip over something in the process.

Jake!

He manages to grab hold of my ankle and pull me backwards. I hit the ground with a loud thud, my head smashing into the floorboards before I immediately tell myself to turn over and kick at his grip. Peter looks up, worried for my safety, he loses control of Jake for a moment as our attacker reaches up with both hands and tries to pull me closer, keeping me from stopping his rescue.

I glance up at Peter. My eyes holding his as panic, madness, starts to set in. I scream as Jake’s strong arms succeed in clawing me towards him. I kick back, grab out to anything to keep myself out of his clutches. Peter looks on stunned, as if out of his body, out of his mind. He takes one final look at me, glances down at Jake, and then takes his dagger and harshly runs it through Jake’s side.

The sound that pierces my ears is nothing I will ever forget. Peter crows violently, as he pulls his dagger free. Jake’s screams thunder through the room. He lets go of my ankle, his hands quickly falling to his wound. But before they make it there, Peter takes his sword, grabs Jake’s hand out to the side and runs it through the center of one of his palms. Jake’s yell roars through my ears and matches the one that falls from my lips as I scurry to back away from the scene in fear.
