- ABOUT THE AUTHORS
‘Oh, whatever,’ said Evie, pulling the card from its envelope, her face breaking into a smile.
A flower for every time I thought of you.
H x
‘Pretty amazing, huh?’ Meg said, breathing over Evie’s shoulder.
‘Meg, it’s time to go,’ said Evie, herding her little sister out of her room.
As she pulled the door closed, Meg called out, ‘Just tell me whether the H stands for Prince Harry!’
‘No, it doesn’t!’ Evie called back with a laugh. ‘He would never do that to M—’ She caught herself just in time, then pulled out her phone.
Evie: Don’t tell me you also slayed that dragon that was after me, Prince Charming?
Hugo: I take it you received my delivery? I thought the dragon slaying would be overkill. Wanted to keep it low key.
Evie: Mission accomplished.
Hugo: I know, I know, it’s all very impractical. But romance wasn’t meant for the pragmatic.
Evie smiled, feeling joyful.
Evie: Now you’re talking my language.
Hugo: Let me make it up to you by cooking you dinner. Can you do Friday?
Evie: Make it up to me? I should be cooking you dinner! Or at the very least, offering to shine your armour.
Hugo: Really, nothing would bring me more pleasure.
Evie: Twist my arm, why don’t you. Sounds wonderful xo
Evie felt as if she were living in a fairytale. Her wildest dreams were coming to life. This was so much better than the future.

Arriving in the heart of Little Venice, Evie stepped out of the cab and doublechecked the address Hugo had given her. She’d expected something much grungier than this whitewashed terraced flat block with larger-than-usual windows running along its stuccoed frontage. The upmarket vibe continued with the entrance, which was flanked by four pillars framing the glossy black door.
After ringing the bell and being buzzed in, Evie took the elevator up to level four and spied Hugo’s flat number to the left. As she walked towards it, she adjusted the red, figure-hugging dress she had found buried at the back of her closet. She had decided to take full advantage of her twenty-year-old curves (I can’t believe I used to think I was fat!). Suddenly feeling slightly intimidated by her surroundings, Evie used the distance to calm her nerves. She stood in front of the door for a few moments, gathering herself, before inhaling deeply and knocking.
