- Don't miss out!
“Yeah. Shit happens. It’s nice to be back home. Muffin?” I asked.
“Nah. I’m good.”
“So your wife comes back tomorrow, eh?”
“Yep. She sure does.” He sighed.
I sat at the table and nodded my head. Just as I was about to say something, G strolled into the kitchen and wrapped her arms around Donovan’s neck.
“I woke up so lonely,” she whined.
“Sorry, baby girl, I couldn’t sleep and I didn’t want to wake you.”
“Hello. Good morning.” I waved.
“Good morning. Did you sleep well?”
“Obviously, I did, since I didn’t even hear Donovan come over.”
“That’s great. You needed the rest.” She poured herself a cup of coffee.
“You two enjoy your morning. I’m going out for a run.”
“Really?” G asked with a surprised tone.
“Yes. I haven’t worked out since I got here and now it’s time for me to get back into it and a routine.”
“Have fun and go run down by the waterfront. It’s pretty.”
I walked to the bedroom and changed into a pair of cropped yoga pants and a t-shirt. After throwing my hair up in a ponytail and brushing my teeth, I put on my running shoes and stepped outside to the overcast grey sky. It looked like it might rain, but I didn’t care, I still ran the two miles to the waterfront. Because it was still early, there weren’t many people around and it was nice. G was right; it was pretty here, especially in the early morning. I turned up the volume on my iPod to try and drown out all thoughts of Simon. Thoughts I no longer wanted to consume my mind. After running about three miles, I noticed my shoe was untied, so I stopped to tie it. As I was bent down tying my shoe, I noticed a pair of legs in grey sweatpants and Nike shoes standing in front of me. I slowly looked up and my heart stopped as he held out his hand.
“I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“Well, I didn’t expect to see you here either,” I replied.
He gave me a small smile, but there was something in his eyes that seemed sad.
“How’s your grandfather?”
“He’s as well as can be expected, I guess.”
Awkward silence had set in, and I still didn’t understand it after everything we’d done. He looked so sexy in his sweatpants and white Nike t-shirt. Fuck, this man looked sexy in anything he wore and nothing. The Simon ache was back and I wanted to die. My body was craving him and I needed to get out of his sight.
“I have to go. I’ll see you Monday at the office.” Before I could jog away, he reached out and lightly took hold of my arm.
“Please, don’t go just yet.”
