- Don't miss out!
“Sounds good. I’ll see you then.”
I showered and put on a pair of beige Capri pants and a black short-sleeved shirt. The pants that were a little snug not so long ago were now practically falling off. I grabbed my purse and my keys and drove to the park. This car was no longer mine and I had to figure out a way to give it back.
“Hey.” Katie smiled as she stood up and gave me a hug.
She had a blanket spread out across the grass with a wicker picnic basket sitting on top.
“It’s good to see you, Katie.”
I sat down on the blanket across from her as she reached into the basket and pulled out a couple of salads.
“I’ve been meaning to call, but I just didn’t know what to say,” she spoke.
“It’s okay. I spent the last two weeks in bed.”
“I hate that you’re not my boss anymore. Simon is a mess. He’s irritable and he’s been yelling a lot. Every time he walks past your office, he stops and looks in. He’s really broken up, Gabby.”
“It’s his own fault.”
“I don’t know what happened and it’s none of my business, but maybe the two of you can work it out in time.”
“No. I never want to see him again.”
We sat and talked for a good two hours about life. She reached into her purse and handed me a card with the name of a doctor on it.
“This is Dr. Roberts’ card. He used to be my therapist and he’s really good. He helped me a lot when I needed it and I think he can help you too. Give him a call and try him out.”
I held the small white business card in my hand and stared at it. Maybe it was time I talked to someone about my life.
“Thank you, Katie.” We hugged goodbye and I got in my car. I needed to get my life together and the first thing I needed to do was to find a new job and get a new apartment. I pulled my phone from my purse and noticed a text message from Simon.
“I know I’m the last person you want to hear from, but I miss you terribly. Again, I’m so sorry. Please, let’s talk.”
I deleted his message and made an appointment to see Dr. Roberts the day after tomorrow.

Chapter 30
“Have a seat, Gabrielle.” Dr. Roberts smiled as he sat down in the chair across from me. I looked around at the pictures he had hanging on his white painted walls. His wood-framed doctorate degree hung in the middle of his neatly arranged family photos.
“I was looking over the questions you answered and you’ve had a pretty rough life. Why don’t you start by telling me why you’re here today.”
