- Don't miss out!
I jumped because he scared the shit out of me. “You scared me. You just can’t sneak up on people like that.”
“I apologize, but I wasn’t sneaking up. What would you like me to do? Yell your name from down the hall to alert you that I’m coming?”
“Yeah, maybe you should. Anyway, good morning.”
“Good morning. Now what is going on in there?”
“It’s called feng shui.”
“You hired people to feng shui your office?”
“Yes. It’ll be good for me. The minute they walked in, they said they could feel nothing but blockage.” I looked back at Simon. He rolled his eyes.
“You really believe in that stuff?”
“Did you just roll your eyes at me?” I asked.
“Yes. You roll your eyes at me all the time. ALL.THE.TIME.”
I couldn’t argue with him on that one because it was true.
“As soon as your office is done, I need to see you in my office.”
“About?”
“You’ll find out when you come up. Twentieth floor.”
“Okay.”
His hand discreetly touched the small of my back and I held my breath. I could feel the softness of his fingers through the silk shirt I was wearing. An hour later, my office was finished.
“Can you feel the energy and positivity flowing through this room?” Marty asked.
“Sure,” I said as I looked over at Katie and saw that she was laughing.
I thanked them for coming and sat down at my newly positioned desk. The office looked bigger and way better, especially with the two large plants that sat in opposite corners. I picked up the phone and asked Katie to call Simon and have him come down to my office. I wanted him to see my new space.
“I thought I told you to come up to my office,” he said with irritation when he arrived.
“I wanted you to see my new space. Can’t you just feel the energy and positivity flowing through the room?” I smiled as I placed my hands on my desk. “Isn’t it much better?”
“If you like it, then that’s all that matters. I personally don’t believe in that horseshit, but to each his own.”
“Why the attitude, Simon?”
“Gabrielle, I asked you to come to my office and you didn’t. Instead, you had your secretary call my secretary to have me come down here.”
“And look, you’re here.”
Simon took in a sharp, irritated breath. “You have two days to prepare for a marketing meeting in Vegas. The file is up in my office and I’ll have Katie bring it to you.”
“Two days? Vegas?”
“Yes. We’ll leave Thursday night. The meeting is on Friday and we’ll be back in Seattle on Sunday. You need to learn the ropes.” He walked out of my office without saying another word.
