Chapter Sixteen
Kai
That stubborn woman is going to be the death of me or the death of my dick, whichever comes first.
Do I regret that kiss? Not one bit. Kisses like that could start and end wars. Seven weeks with her and I’m already tired of pretending like her very existence doesn’t set my soul on fire. Like I’m not starving to devour every inch of her.
My timing was all wrong though. She’s nowhere ready for all that.
But fuck, she tasted so good. Her lips have always been made for mine with their penchant for giving as good as they get. She smelled like coconut, tasted like honey, and felt like home. And the sounds she made? Fuck, I missed those. The sounds of her coming apart from my hands and mouth. I could drown in her. If she hadn’t pulled away I wouldn’t have stopped until my aching dick was driving into her wetness.
I have no idea what got in her head yesterday, but I’m glad she stopped us from going further. Sleeping with her would’ve been a mistake. Let me rephrase. Sleeping with her would’ve finally given me back the piece of myself I’ve been missing for the last thirteen years, but seeing the regret I know I would’ve seen on her face would’ve been a gut punch I wouldn’t recover from, so I’m grateful it didn’t happen.
Olivia used to be a warrior. She still is. I can see it in her eyes in those brief moments where her guard is down, but something is holding her back. She used to be the girl that didn’t give two shits what anyone had to say about her, the girl that made the varsity soccer team during her freshman year tryouts, the girl who pushed me to stand out among a crowd that only wanted to fit in. I don’t know what happened to her, but it kills me to see her light dimmed when it used to be able to light an entire stadium.
Yesterday, I gave her a reprieve because I knew she needed it. She was right; I stole a kiss from her and that was wrong. Fine. If I want her back for good then I need to take a step back and focus on rebuilding the friendship first. Once I have that then it’ll be time to take back what’s mine.
