  43. About the Author

“Hey roomie.”

“Excuse me?”

“You wouldn’t come stay with me. So, I’m staying with you.”

“Like hell you are.”

I step into her space, and to her credit, she doesn’t back down. “Never been to hell but I can tell you that this is happening.” I toss my duffle bags in the house without taking my eyes off her. “You cannot stay by yourself in the beginning stages of your recovery. So you have two options. You can let me in so I can unpack and get comfortable and then we can work together to get your ass back on that field, or I can throw you over my shoulder and move you out of my way so I can unpack, get comfortable, and help you get your ass back on that field.” Let’s be real, I don’t need to stay with her for a full year. She’s only going to need assistance for another couple of weeks, but I’m hoping by then she won’t want me to go. I’m taking too many liberties here, but I can’t find a single fuck to give. She’s here. I’m not giving up until I can say I’ve tried absolutely everything. She’d be well within her rights to call the cops on me to remove me from her property, but I’m hoping her love of soccer will win out here. It has before.

I know the moment her eyes shutter that I’ve won. She steps aside, and I walk right in and pick up my bags.

“Don’t get cocky. I’m letting you in here because I want my career back.” She doesn’t have to remind me. I’m well aware that I come second to soccer.

“Understood.”

“Also, I don’t know where this demanding side of you came from, but this is my house. Well, it’s my house for as long as I’m renting it. So don’t think you’re gonna come up in here and boss me around all the time. I’m not having it.”

Her command makes me smirk. She has no idea. I toss one of my bags over my shoulder and lean down to whisper in her ear. “I’ve changed a lot over the last thirteen years, Olivia. I look forward to us getting reacquainted.” I start walking down the narrow hallway, leaving her behind. “Bedrooms this way?” I don’t wait for her response, but I swear I hear her curse under her breath.

Chapter Fourteen

Olivia

Who is this man and what has he done with the real Kai Morris?

The Kai I knew let everything roll off his back, but this guy won’t get off my fucking neck. He’s so fucking pushy. And I can’t lie…it’s sexy as hell.
