It’s graduation day at Rice. I should be excited. I’m getting my degree and I already have a job in my field lined up, but instead I’m staring at a picture of Olivia standing arm in arm with her teammate, Angelica Flores a.k.a. Clutch. It looks like the picture was taken mid laugh.

Frustration seeps into my bones. She’s moved on. Great. Good for her. But I can’t seem to do the same. I haven’t been able to stop replaying our last conversation for the last two and a half years. My parents have asked no fewer than fifty times what happened, but I can’t bring myself to tell them the details. Maybe it’s because I don’t want them to hate her, even though that hasn’t stopped Kylie. She gets irritated anytime she sees or hears Olivia’s name, but she won’t talk about it.
I just have to get through today and then maybe I can push her to the back of my mind.
