Morgan barely waited for Danielle to stop the car before getting in. She seemed nearly as anxious, not even bothering with saying hello and pulling back onto the road as Morgan buckled his seatbelt. Tell me again how you zeroed in on this particular guy? What was his name again?

Ward Dolan. He left Georgetown abruptly three months ago. No doctor lined up to take his place, no explanation and he doesnt appear to have gone to a different hospital. Thats not typical. Theres usually a story behind something like that. He still has his license, though, so I doubt the issue was medical malpractice.

So what do you think it was?

It points to more of a personnel issue. I . . . heard a rumor that he may have been harassing female staff members. He didnt want to bring Ashleys name up, even with Danielle. The less involvement she had, the better. His time at Georgetown overlapped all three of our victims, all of whom were young attractive women.

Did Lexa ever say anything to you about being harassed?

Morgan shook his head. No. But she might not have felt it necessary. If she took it up with Human Resources and they dealt with it, I might never have heard anything about it. He could see Lexa not wanting to share that kind of information with him.

Do you know for certain which women complained about Dolan?

Another headshake. Sorry. No.

Danielle shrugged. Dont be sorry. Im just making sure I understand what were dealing with here. What youre saying is that we have a disgruntled doc here, but theres no direct connection with his disgruntlement and our three victims.

But there could be, Morgan added. There had to be. It made perfect sense.

Do you know him? Have you worked with him? she asked.

A little. I dont know him well and what I do know I didnt like much. The guy was a pompous ass.

Danielle glanced over at him. Did he seem prone to violence to you?

Dolan had never seemed the type to throw a punch. He was more the type of guy who would do something behind your back. No. Not really.

You never know whats going to make someone snap, Danielle observed as she pulled up in front of a house with a For Sale sign in the overgrown yard. Morgan stepped out of the vehicle. After so many days of rain, the sun was out and a soft warm breeze made the sign sway. Maybe Morgan had it wrong. Maybe Dolan had taken a position elsewhere and was taking a little time between positions to move. The place looked deserted.

Somebody apparently isnt concerned about curb appeal. Danielle had gotten out and stood next to him, looking over the property with a bit of disapproval.

It did seem odd. The rest of the neighborhood sported manicured lawns with well-tended flowerbeds. Dolans place was a mess.
