Hutton looked up. His eyes went wide and then he was sprinting across the grass. Danielle was at his heels. It took Morgan a second to even register what was happening and by that time both Hutton and Danielle were several yards away. As Morgan watched, Hutton increased his lead on Danielle.

They had him. They had their guy. But he was getting away. Morgan was not going to allow that to happen. The man who had murdered Lexa was not going to slip through their fingers. Not today.

Hutton was running down the busy street toward where Danielle had parked. He was going to have to get off it if he was going to completely shake her. His speed was flagging. Hers was staying steady. Still, if he could veer off, he could get away. If Morgan were Hutton, hed try to get into the park that was a block up. Thered be places to hide in there. Multiple entrances and exits that would allow someone to slip away.

If Morgan could get there first, cut Hutton off, block his escape routes, Danielle would be able to catch him.

Morgan took off like a shot. By angling toward the park on the side streets, hed be able to get there before Hutton. If anyone thought it was strange to see a man in jeans barreling through their neighborhood in the middle of the day, they didnt do anything about it.

He burst into the park. Nothing but trees and bushes and playground equipment. Had he missed them? He ran toward the area where he thought Hutton would enter. There he was. Breathing hard, but still moving. Danielle was not in sight.

Without thinking, Morgan launched himself through the air and collided with Hutton. They collapsed onto the grass.

What the hell, man? Hutton yelled, struggling against Morgans grasp. Let me go.

Forget that. No way. You stay down. Morgan pinned Hutton to the ground.

Get off him, Morgan. Get off him right now. Danielle had arrived. Shed only been seconds behind.

Morgan sat back on his heels and brushed the leaves and loose grass off the front of his jacket. Hed got him. Hed kept him from getting away. Hed made sure Hutton was going to pay for what he did. The adrenaline coursing through him was better than any drug hed ever heard of.

Danielle helped Cole Hutton to his feet, cuffed him, and read him his rights. Come on, Mr. Hutton. Id like to have a chat with you. She walked away with him, her hand on his elbow, after shooting Morgan a quick glare over her shoulder.

What was her problem? They got him, didnt they? A thrill of excitement ran through him as he considered that he might have been integral in cracking the case. It was almost as good as making a really tricky diagnosis.
