She frowned. Im going to need a little more information than that. We get quite a few people through here. Its hard to remember every name. She gestured out to the floor where every bay was full.

Right. He stroked his chin. How to remind her of who this guy was without giving her so much information that he influenced what shed tell him? He would have been through here about five months ago. We treated him for smoke inhalation. Him and his daughter. She was about seven.

Realization dawned on Imanis face. Oh, yes. I remember that one. Broke everyones heart, for sure, but there wasnt much to be done about it. As I recall, he was high as a kite and had nearly burned down their place around the daughters ears. She was the one who got him out of the apartment, if memory serves.

Good. Her memory matched what Morgan had read in the chart. CPS took the daughter?

Dont remember if it was CPS or the hospital social worker, but yes. We werent going to allow her to go home with him. She tapped one slender finger against her lips. I think it was the social worker, but she had already notified CPS.

Howd Hutton take it? Morgan asked.

Imanis eyes got wide. Not well, Ill tell you that much. When he realized what was happening, he started hollering. He was going to sue us all and take our licenses. She sniffed. As if.

Did he threaten anything beyond suing? Morgan asked.

Imani rotated the chair back and forth as she thought. You mean like physical violence?

Exactly like that.

I think so. I think he got focused on poor Dr. Windham. Said hed make her life hell. Something like that. Imani shrugged. It happens. They generally cool down after a bit.

Morgan stood. Thanks, Imani.

Thats it? She seemed surprised.

For now. Someone else might have questions later.

She stood, too, one hand braced on the desk. You think this has something to do with what happened to Dr. Windham?

Morgan shook his head. I cant say. I think its something someone should look into, though.

He knew exactly who that someone should be. He shot off a text to Danielle as he strode out of the Emergency Department. I have a lead.

His phone rang before he even got out of the building. What do you mean by a lead? she asked without preamble once he answered the phone.

I mean I found a patient who might have had a grudge against both Lexa and Michelle. A man named Cole Hutton lost custody of his daughter. Lexa had ordered a blood test and Michelle was the lab tech who ran it. His blood alcohol level was high plus he had Fentanyl in his system.

And how did you find this out? she asked, suspicion clear in her voice.
