So you're living downtown? I hear it's so expensive and built-up there now. I'm living actually in SoFoFi. SoFoFi? South between Fourth and Fifth? It's this sort of little-known enclave of amazing old factory loft spaces. I'm actually in the building where Rent was inspired. There are a lot of artists in the building. And it has a history of housing some of the most influential creators of our time—from Bernstein to Midler to Puff Daddy "Sean" Combs. I have the room on the roof with a beautiful view and cupola. Actually Sade's manager got it for me.

And what kind of music are you listening to these days? Oh, yeah, Nick Drake. Wow, I haven't listened to him since my depressed college phase. I'll have to pull all his albums out. Thanks for reminding me! Do you have that on tape too? (Ha ha! Remember your whole tape cassette demo fiasco?) Maybe your Nick Drake sounds "warmer" that way or whatever. Hmm. No I'm just suddenly remembering that Sheila's been looking for music for a series of commercials she is producing. Nick Drake may work. Thanks for the tip.

Oh my God, did you see Jacob Fountainhead on Conan? He really cleaned up his image. He is so HOT. I mean I totally spotted him as having star quality when I saw him playing with you, but now it looks like it's true. Wow, he was amazing. You think it looked dumb? Well the crowd was going wild. I know you have a whole thing with him but he's just plain talented. And guess what. Tyler is designing his CD cover. Ever since he won the Pricely Award for Promising Young Artists, he's got all these people begging for him. And what about you?

You're taking a trip? Trajanja? Yes of course I've heard of it! The small communal hard-to-get-to island off of Belize? I went there last spring. Be sure to say hi to Rogelio. You won't miss him. He is pretty much the social maven of the island. He's so "cursi"! He will take one look at you and decide whether you are cool or not, and either make your trip amazing or a kind of hell! Ha ha! No, it's probably not a big deal that you're white. You know, just be yourself. And since I'm sure you got your shots. Oh. You didn't? Wow, I wish we'd talked before. I'm sorry but yes, those shots are kind of important. Without them you really have a high risk of developing a lot of long-term stomach problems and you don't really get to leave your room. Yeah, you could try to get them today, I guess. I mean apparently they don't really "kick in" for like a week, but . . . yeah, you could try. Maybe they have made some medical advances since last spring.

Oh well, it'll be nice to rest.
