JENNIFER: Because— God. I didn’t drag you into anything.
(Pony enters.)
PONY: Hi. Sorry. You’re in the middle of something.
JENNIFER: Yes, we are, actually.
BOB: Hey, Pony. How’re you doing?
JENNIFER (Realizing she won’t be leaving): Oh, okay. That was quite a show.
PONY: We were celebrating.
BOB: Do you want some wine?
PONY: No, thanks. Is it red? Anyway, no— although that’s my favorite. White’s good, too. I actually don’t care about wine.
BOB: I’m having some.
JENNIFER (To Bob): I’ll have a glass with you. (To Pony) This isn’t the one you brought. We’re saving that.
BOB (Refills Jennifer’s glass, but doesn’t have any himself): There you go.
PONY: We were celebrating finally getting everything out of boxes. Plus, we put that liner paper in all the drawers and cabinets. You should come see it. It’s actually not that great. John’s asleep so I thought I’d come over.
JENNIFER: Wasn’t he just lighting off fireworks a couple minutes ago?
PONY: Yeah, he’s weird. No, he’s good.
JENNIFER: I wish I could fall asleep like that. Some nights, it’s like sleep is—
PONY (Interrupting): The fireworks was so fun and we were playing this music John got at the library, and then he just fell asleep right on the grass.
JENNIFER: I wish I could do that. He’s probably still tired from the whole move and the last few weeks.
PONY: Yeah. He saved my life. I could tell you the story, because it’s a beautiful story, but just trust me.
BOB: No, I’m sure.
PONY: I’d probably be a real mess. I probably would’ve overdosed on drugs, if I’d gotten into drugs and then taken too many. (Brief pause) People do get saved by people, you know.
BOB: He’s really there for you.
PONY: I know.
JENNIFER: I’m sure he’ll be fine in the morning.
BOB: How’s the house? How’s everything else?
PONY: It’s mainly that. What I just said.
BOB: What?
PONY: That John had a seizure.
JENNIFER: You said he fell asleep.
PONY: He did, but, like, he was shaking. I don’t think it was a seizure. (To Bob) Can you go look?
JENNIFER (Getting up): I’ll go.
PONY: I gave him his wallet. I know you’re supposed to do that. I think he’s okay. I was worried I’d hurt him or do something wrong.
JENNIFER: Did you make sure he was— it doesn’t matter. (Exiting) Where is he?
PONY: Right in the front. (To Bob) I’m sorry.
BOB: He’s probably tired.
PONY: I thought you’d go.
BOB: No, Jennifer’ll figure it out. She should have been a nurse.
PONY: I faint if I see blood. And sometimes even if I don’t. I feel like a little kid.
