- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
The couple exchanges a look, and Jo tosses me an encouraging smile. “It’s perfectly normal. Stop overthinking! Send her a text, say hello, and relax. You’re going to be fine. You’re a great guy.”
“Can you send a message on my behalf and talk me up? I don’t know what to say.”
“You can tell her you want to hear what she sounds like when she comes, but saying hello is the problem?” Jack asks sarcastically and I toss a napkin at him.
“Whoa, what?” Jo asks. “You were sexting?!”
“Don’t listen to your stupid boyfriend,” I grumble.
“That’s hot.” Jo grins. “Anyway, you can figure out how to interact with a woman without trying to bang her. Pick up your phone. It’s not that difficult.”
“There needs to be a class on this shit. Texting 101. How to Woo a Woman in Ten Days. Best Desk Banging Positions.” I throw in the jab as retaliation for Jack’s joke.
“Lancaster here could teach a seminar on the latter topic,” Jo says brightly. “Speaking of, I’m going to take a bath.” She leans into Jack, whispering in his ear, and I don’t miss the shade of crimson he turns or how his eyes dart to me.
“Oh, please don’t stop on my account,” I tease, leaning back in my chair. “I’m enjoying the show.”
“What, you want to watch?” Jo grins at me.
“Don’t tempt me with a good time. Two hot people getting it on? Sign me up. I’ve heard about some of his techniques. Maybe I need a clinic.”
“Jesus, this is why you two can’t be alone together,” Jack mumbles. “Too many ideas. Leave, sweetheart. Please. You’re provoking him, and I know what you’re thinking. It has to be a stranger, not one of my friends.”
“But it’s so fun,” she whines, climbing off his lap. “You deserve to be happy, Henry. Go in with an open mind and see what happens. I’m rooting for you.” With a wave, she leaves and Jack exhales.
“I swear that woman is going to kill me; at least I’d die happy.”
“A stranger, huh? Thinking of adding a third?” I ask.
“Adding? No. Watching? Yes. And if you try to say some shit about what she likes, I’ll punch you.”
“Are you kidding me? That’s sexy as hell. Does it bother you when I joke with her?”
“No. I’d tell you if it did. I like that you two are friends.”
“Okay, good. I would never touch her. None of us would.”
“Are you calling my girlfriend ugly, Dawson?”
“You know I think she’s a beautiful woman. I meant regarding your past. That shit isn’t going to happen again.”
