  89. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

RB: Unless you work at the museum. In which case, I have so many questions about all the dinosaur bones.

JD: I don’t work at the museum.

JD: Back to you. I like talking about you. I think you’re short.

JD: Like I could pick you up and you’d wrap your legs around me and it wouldn’t feel like I was holding you at all.

RB: That depends on how tall YOU are.

JD: How tall do you think I am?

RB: A giant, easily towering over me and the rest of the world, probably.

RB: I bet you’re able to get people to do what you want because you’re so imposing.

RB: You boss people around and they listen to you, because otherwise you’ll squish them with your long legs and authoritative voice.

JD: How do you feel about authoritative voices?

RB: I… like them.

JD: Noted. And I am tall. 6’4. An honest 6’4. Not 5’10 rounded up to 6’4.

RB: Why do men feel the need to lie about their height?

JD: It’s definitely a confidence thing. They don’t think women are going to go around carrying yardsticks.

JD: We’re also dumb. That’s the easiest answer.

JD: Besides my staggering height, tell me what else you envision about me.

JD: Yeah, I’m selfish for asking.

RB: I think you’re kind. Not in the sense you hold the door open for everyone walking in.

JD: Wow! I love holding the door open for people. I also always return my shopping cart.

RB: What I mean is you’re probably loyal to your friends and stick up for them. You also probably help the occasional elderly woman cross the street and flirt with her afterwards.

RB: This next part might be a little bold…

RB: I think you’re going to be handsome AND hot. A combination of the two, which, yes, is a thing. People probably gawk at you when they pass.

RB: I already know you’re way out of my league.

JD: Doubtful. I think it’s the other way around.

RB: We’ll see soon, won’t we? 36ish hours.

JD: Time isn’t moving fast enough.

JD: What are you up to tonight?

RB: Speaking of bubble baths…

My jaw drops and I bite my knuckles to suppress the groan that wants to escape from my mouth.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Neil asks, staring at me like I’m insane.

It’s Friday night, and the guys and I are together for our weekend-kickoff drinks and food.

“Nothing,” I say quickly, clicking away from the photo before anyone can spot the source of my excitement.

RB sent me a picture of her in the bath.

Okay, sure, there are bubbles everywhere and only her ankles and painted toes are barely visible through the suds. The rest of her body is heavily obscured and the lighting is dim.

Still.
