Her eyes lit up at the mention of the guy and she talked about what happened after we had left. It was good to have a girlfriend to talk to here. It cemented my desire to live here full-time. I didn’t think it was possible, but in the few short months I had been here, I have found myself, and I was becoming someone I could be proud of. Getting closer to the anniversary of the death of Henry and the baby, I felt like I could finally see that life had taken me somewhere that I was ok with.

Work had been hectic this week. Since it had been getting cooler, many people were going on more hikes. With school starting, we were seeing a lot of sick kids and some sports injuries too. I wrote the medicine the doctor was prescribing to a patient on their discharge papers so they could get back home. Sick kids were always so hard to see, especially the younger they were. I sent the medication to their preferred pharmacy, and gave them everything they needed. I let them know they needed to check in with their pediatrician if things weren’t clearing up after a few days.

As I sat down to put everything into the computer, I checked my phone, realizing I hadn’t gotten any texts from the guys. It was eleven pm and I usually had already heard from one of them saying good night or in Nathan's case, a selfie of him lying in bed by himself, saying he missed me. He once sent a pic of him next to a sleeping Callum, saying since he missed me, he was going to spoon Callum.

I figured it was probably a late night for them and I would get one soon. An accident, two sick babies, and a prank gone wrong later, and I still hadn‘t heard from the guys. I wanted to text them, but it was already three am and I didn’t want to wake them. A bad feeling started to grow in my stomach and by the time seven rolled around, I was nauseated. I felt like I was being irrational, and everything was fine, but there was just a nagging feeling that just wouldn’t go away.

I had texted at six hoping someone would respond since it was a Friday and they all had work today, but I had gotten nothing. My mind kept going to a car accident, but I knew that wasn’t the case since I left them at their house when I came to work. But they could have left.

“You ok, Jane?”

I smiled at the sound of Daniel’s voice. I looked up to see him, concerned. “Uh yeah. I was thinking about something.”

“You look like you’re about to throw up.” He came closer and held a hand up to my forehead.
