Nathan pulled down the comforter when we heard a loud slam. We both looked towards the door as loud voices echoed in the house.
“I’m going to go see what’s happening,” Nathan said, as the voices got a little louder. He rushed out of the room, and I followed.
“How can he expect me to compete with someone like that?” Callum’s voice carried into the hallway.
“How good is he?” Aiden sounded calm, as usual.
“He’s undefeated.” We walked into the living room where we saw Callum pacing, and Aiden was standing still watching him.
“What happened?” Nathan asked as we walked in. Callum’s eyes instantly went to me.
“I have a fight tonight,” he said, looking conflicted. “It’s with someone who has made a name for himself in the underground fight scene.”
“That means?” Nathan asked cautiously as I walked to Callum and embraced him.
“It means I probably won’t win, and it’s going to be painful as hell,” he replied into my neck, giving me goosebumps.
“Do you work tonight?” Aiden asked me, and I shook my head.
“I’m sorry, but I’m going to need you tonight,” he said, holding me a little tighter. “You can say..”
“I’m going,” I said, not wanting to be away from him. “I know you said it’s not safe, but if something goes wrong, I can help.”
Callum pulled away. “I’m gonna go shower and get ready. We have two hours to get there, and I need to get my shit together.”
Callum walked away, and dread pooled in my heart. I looked back at Aiden, and he looked worried and angry. Nathan was staring toward the hallway that Callum had disappeared through.
“Is it bad?” I asked Aiden. “I don’t want you to sugarcoat it.”
“If he’s worried, that makes me even more worried.” He exhaled harshly. “Callum is a fucking beast in the ring. He’s really talented, but if he says he’s probably not going to win, I’m really worried about who he is fighting.”
“What’s his name?” Nathan asked.
“Brent Alvaro,” Aiden said, looking down the hall too.
The amount of worry he had for Callum was scaring me. Nathan started typing on his phone, sitting down, looking at something that was making his brows furrow more and more.
“Come on, Jane, let’s go look at the med pack and see if I’ve missed anything. We need to be prepared for anything tonight with the fight, and Lucio.” Aiden guided me to his bag, where we both organized everything, replacing what we needed, and adding a few things that I had in my car from my bag.
“I think that’s as good as it’s going to get without me bringing the hospital with me,” I tried to joke, but Aiden looked lost in his thoughts.
