Brett snorted from behind the bar where he’d been spotting Max. “What Max means is that he finally stopped being a crybaby so now we get along great.”

“I see that,” Preslee said, a giggle slipping past her lips. “Well, I’m glad you two were able to put aside your differences.”

Max shrugged. “Didn’t have a choice. I needed my truck fixed, and this guy is apparently the best mechanic in town.”

“About time you admitted that,” Brett said.

“Well, it’s very…mature of you.” Preslee smiled at them before her eyes fell solely on Brett. “I’m looking forward to your wedding. I received my invitation last week.”

“Good. Sidney will be glad to hear you’re coming.” Brett glanced over her shoulder at Adam, who was standing behind her. “Speaking of which, I had her send you and Kurt invitations. I know the gym stays open late on Saturdays though, so I’ll understand if y’all can’t attend.”

Adam shrugged. “No problem. We’re just going to close up early that night. Neither one of us wants to miss you getting hitched.”

“Sweet,” Brett said, his tone sarcastic. “Didn’t know you two cared so much.”

“We don’t,” Adam replied with a smirk. “We just figured that Sidney’s the only woman willing to put up with your sorry ass and thought we better be there to make sure you don’t screw it up.”

Max laughed.

“Whatever.” Brett rolled his eyes with a good-natured grin. “You guys don’t need to worry about me messing things up with Sidney. I’d do anything to keep her happy. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Max smacked him on the back. “She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to all of us. She’s made you more tolerable to be around. Now we can work out together without me wanting to kill you. At least for an hour or two anyway.”

Wiping the sweat off his neck with a towel, Brett shook his head at Max and then glanced at Preslee and Adam. “That’s another thing. We realized we had something in common. Max and I both like lifting weights. Who knew?”

“I did,” Adam told them.

Preslee giggled. Both men were gym rats, and it made sense that they would have that in common. “It’s amazing how things work out.”

“It sure is.” Brett cocked his head at her. “So what are you doing here?”

Adam stepped closer to her. “She’s training with me.”

Confusion filled Max’s eyes. “Really? I didn’t even know you were a member here, much less working with Adam. When did this happen?”

She fidgeted in place. “I, uh, started a few days ago.”
