No. She wasn’t the least bit worried. Adam had been nothing but kind, patient, and encouraging during their other workouts, even if she did tease him about being the spawn of Satan. In truth, the workouts weren’t as bad as she’d thought. Sure, they kicked her butt and left her on the ground in a sweaty heap, but they never involved anything that wasn’t within her capabilities. Somehow, he had geared the exercises specifically to her and made sure they would challenge her.

She liked that. It motivated her and made her feel stronger.

He was a great trainer for someone like her who needed the extra incentive to keep going. His positivity and enthusiasm were contagious, and she could tell he had genuine concern for her health and well-being…which only made her feel worse for doubting his intentions.

Her earlier suspicions about an ulterior motive in helping her were clearly just her being paranoid. If she’d learned anything from her past, it was that she couldn’t always trust her judgment when it came to other people. Especially men. She obviously needed to get over that. So far, he seemed like a “what you see is what you get” type of guy. She could trust him, couldn’t she?

Of course she could. They were becoming fast friends. Well, as far as he was concerned anyway. It wasn’t like she didn’t want to be Adam’s friend. It was just hard for her to think of him that way since she kept having these vivid fantasies of him being in her bed. Or her in his. Honestly, she didn’t care which. She wasn’t that picky. But that was all they were. Silly fantasies.

Adam clapped his hands together. “You ready, Preslee?”

Dazed and distracted, her wide eyes lifted to his. “For what?”

His brow lifted curiously. “To work out.”

“Oh. That,” she said, heat flooding her cheeks. She hoped he wouldn’t be able to guess what she’d been thinking. “Yep, let’s do it.”

“Come on,” he said, pivoting on his heel and marching across the room.

She followed, uncertain as to what they were doing. And that made her nervous since a handful of men were working out at different stations. But as they passed by two of them, one spotting the other on the bench press, Preslee stopped in her tracks.

She recognized them both. “Max? Brett? I didn’t expect to run into you two here.” At least not together. The last she’d heard, they hated each other. But she didn’t want to say that aloud.

Both men grinned as Max sat up on the bench. “We get that a lot. But since Brett decided to quit being such a punk, we’re cool now and have been working out together.”
