Was she feeling sick? Maybe he should check her for a fever. Her cheeks did look a little flushed. But as Adam studied her curiously, she leaned toward Josh, listening intently as he spoke. Almost as if she were hanging on his every word. Her shiny eyes flickered over the guy with something that looked a lot like interest, and when Josh directed attention her way, the soft pink hue in her cheeks brightened.
Oh. Okay. So that was it. She had a thing for…Josh? Really?
Not that there was anything wrong with the guy. At least he didn’t think so. They’d only really spoken a handful of times, but he seemed like a decent enough person. For the most part. Still, something didn’t feel right about Preslee and Josh as a couple. Well, as far as Adam was concerned. He didn’t really know either of them well, but he couldn’t help the way he felt. Maybe his unease was just because Josh didn’t seem to return Preslee’s interest.
Adam glanced over at Josh and eyed him. In fact, he didn’t seem to be paying her much attention at all. Hell, he’d barely looked at her the entire time he spoke.
Weird.
Because Preslee was a knockout. Even if she didn’t seem to realize it. But he kind of liked and appreciated that about her. Still, Adam couldn’t imagine any single guy not recognizing it. Well, unless he was batting for the other team. That was the only thing that made any sense to him.
Adam’s gaze shifted back to Preslee, and his eyes roamed over her. When he’d first met her, she’d worn a ponytail and little to no makeup. But now her auburn hair hung loose around her shoulders, framing her heart-shaped face. Long, dark eyelashes lined her gorgeous blue eyes. And a pretty pink gloss shone on her full, perfect lips, matching the color of the nail polish on her toes that were peeking out from beneath the desk in a pair of stylish sandals.
Two very different looks, yet he couldn’t decide which one he liked best. Natural and alluring. Or elegant and appealing. Both were sexy as hell. The thought barely filtered through his mind when the tip of her wet tongue darted out and slid slowly across her bottom lip. Something clenched hard in his stomach.
Fuck. Pink gloss for the win.
But as Adam lifted his gaze to meet hers, he realized that she still wasn’t looking at him. Her eyes lingered on the rambling dude next to him, the one she apparently had the hots for. Irritation swirled in Adam’s gut. He’d have to figure out later why that bothered him. Surely it had to do with how Josh treated her as if she weren’t even there. The blind bastard.
“Adam?”
His head shot up. “Huh?”
