Not only had the comments and the shares kept coming from strangers online, but it seemed like everyone in town had seen the video as well. The store had been busier than ever, and while that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, she was certain her cheeks were now permanently stained with a red hue from all the blushing she’d done. Everyone kept asking her about the video. They wanted to know more about her workout, if she was trying to lose weight, and how she was doing it. Then they brought up the one subject she really didn’t want to think about. Adam Caldwell.

Jeez. Why her?

Preslee bumped her forehead against the smooth flat surface of the desk. Ouch. Okay, yeah. That hurt. But she probably deserved it after all the lies she’d told whenever someone asked her which gym she belonged to. But what else could she say? That she quit the gym on the first night? While it might be true, that didn’t mean she wanted to admit it out loud to everyone.

Besides, it wasn’t actually a lie. She had paid for her first month already and was technically still a member of the Body Shop, even if she had thrown her membership card away. She just sort of left that last part out.

“Uh, Preslee,” a male voice sounded, puzzlement filling his tone.

Her head snapped up from the desk to find the shop’s new delivery driver staring curiously at her. Crap. “Oh, uh…hello.”

“Can I interrupt you for a second?”

She swallowed the knot forming in her throat. “Of course. I was just…um, taking a break. Did you need something?”

“Not really. I was just letting you know that Greg and I are going out on a delivery. We’re taking that dining room table set over to Sycamore Avenue. It shouldn’t take long.”

She nodded. “Okay.”

“Greg said we’d probably take our lunch break when we get back since we don’t have any more deliveries until this afternoon.”

“Sounds good.” She twisted her fingers together in her lap. “I’m, uh, going to eat lunch too,” she said, her voice warbling a little.

Josh grinned. “Well, yeah. Most people do.”

Preslee cringed internally. Why did she always have to spout out stupid things whenever a cute guy was around? What the heck was wrong with her? She reached for her water bottle to ease her dry throat and knocked a stapler off the desk. Josh went for it at the same time as she did, and their heads collided. “Ow.”

“Sorry,” he said, wincing as he placed the stapler on the desk.

She rubbed at the sore spot on her forehead. The second one. “That’s okay. It was my fault. I should’ve watched where I put my head.” Oh, for goodness’ sake.

An awkward silence sat between them.
