“Oh my God.” She snorted. “I’m leaving. You know, before you break your arm trying to pat yourself on the back.”

He grinned at her sarcastic remark. God, he loved that about her.

She started to open the door but hesitated. “Um, thanks for earlier though. It was really good.”

His smile widened. “My pleasure.”

He loved that about her too. Even though she was embarrassed beyond belief, she would still always state the truth no matter what. It was a refreshing quality that was hard to find in most people. Including him.

Guilt coursed through him. He still hadn’t told her the truth about his bet with Kurt. While he hadn’t exactly lied, he had sort of gone around the truth. As far as he was concerned, that was just as bad. He was pretty sure she would agree.

Adam didn’t want to spend one more night without telling her the truth. All of it. Though he didn’t like the idea of hurting her. But it wasn’t like he had much of a choice. Unless…

Maybe if he put an end to the bet first, she wouldn’t be as upset. It would be in the past, and he could prove to her that he didn’t care about the bet. She was the important thing to him. He didn’t give a damn that he would lose to Kurt by forfeit. In the end, as long as he had Preslee, he would come out a winner.

She rolled her neck. “My muscles are still a little sore from last night. We could head to the gym and get in a workout before I check on my dad.”

“Actually, I have something I need to take care of right now, but we can meet up later. I need to talk to you about something anyway. It’s important.”

Her head snapped up, and something flashed in her eyes. Was that panic? Fear? “What is it?” she asked, her voice low.

Damn it. He shouldn’t have said anything. Now he’d worried her for nothing. “I’d rather not get into it now. This is a conversation for when we have more time and neither of us has to be somewhere. Okay?”

She scowled. “Fine.”

God. He was already screwing this up. He should’ve known she would assume the worst. “Preslee, trust me. I’ll explain everything later. Until then, try not to jump to conclusions, okay?”

She paused thoughtfully. “All right. I’ll try not to.”

He smiled, hoping it would appease her fears. “Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt.”

She nodded and moved to get out, but he snagged her arm, stopping her. She gazed back to see what he was doing, and he used that moment to pull her to him and plant a searing kiss on her. Her lips parted in surprise, and he slid his tongue between them, deepening the kiss.
