Peggy and Greta woke up thinking about the vegan sausage rolls. How nice it would be to have vegan sausage rolls for lunch. For breakfast, even. They’d stepped out of their clothes. They’d got home later than they had thought they would and both of them still had their make-up on. They looked pretty bad, but it only took a shower and a cup of coffee to get them ready to go. Peggy grabbed a backpack – they would probably get more than just sausage rolls. They headed off, walking past the parliament buildings and straight down to the waterfront. It was still early when they got there and there were people running and cycling and even some on rollerblades and skateboards. It was overcast, so the water was dark and choppy. There was energy in the air, maybe it was the wind, but it was also the people. Most of them swept past Peggy and Greta without a second glance. Peggy had her hair up and only Greta had sunglasses on, but it was also that people were in their own early Sunday morning worlds. Everyone had work tomorrow. Peggy and Greta had work tomorrow but that felt like it was a long time away as they walked around the waterfront surrounded by the motion of the other early morning people.

The supermarket was busy too. People walked through the aisles carrying newspapers, looking for fresh bread and eggs. Peggy and Greta looked through the glass doors of the large stand-up refrigerators. There were lots of readymade meat meals and then there were frozen meats done in special ways – crumbed, rolled. When they got to the ice cream, they figured they’d gone too far. So, they went back to where they’d started and walked slowly again, looking up and down the shelves as they walked. Then Peggy spotted them. They were right next to the meat sausage rolls. The door opened with a suck and they both read the label and it was true. They were vegan sausage rolls and Peggy and Greta had a packet of them.
