- Don't miss out!
“I took a half day. Donovan is out of town and I was caught up with my cases, so I thought I’d swing by since I’ve barely seen you all week.”
“I’m buried in work.”
“You choose to be buried in work. Any word from Simon yet?”
I shook my head as I took the Styrofoam containers out of the bag. After we finished a nice lunch, Giana left to go do some grocery shopping. She had invited Jared over for dinner tonight and wanted to know if I’d be there. She was pleased when I told her I would.
“Gabby?” Katie poked her head in the door.
I looked up from my computer. “What’s up?”
“I just thought you should know that Mr. Young is back in the office today.”
The twinge in my stomach revived itself. He was here and didn’t bother to let me know?
“Thank you for letting me know, Katie.”
I opened the acquisition file and, instantly, something caught my attention. This was not the same document that was signed in Vegas. The terms had been changed and a new clause was added. Immediately, I called Katie.
“Please get me the original paperwork for the acquisition of the hotel.”
“You have it. It’s on your desk.”
“No, this isn’t the original file,” I spoke with concern.
“That’s the only file there is, Gabby. I swear to you that’s the original.”
Something wasn’t right. It had all of our signatures on it, but it was not the same acquisition we signed. Son of a bitch. Someone was out to screw Young International. I closed the file and took the elevator up to Simon’s office. I was literally shaking at the thought of seeing him, but I had no choice. The elevator doors opened, but his secretary wasn’t at her desk. I didn’t hesitate to push the door open and step in unannounced. The instant he heard the door fly open, he looked up at me from behind his desk. I gulped at the sight of him, but I couldn’t let that deter me from why I was there. I was angry at him for personal reasons. This was business and I had to keep it that way. I walked over to his desk and threw the file on it.
“Someone is trying to screw you over. Just thought you’d want to know.” I turned around and headed for the door. Before I could reach it, he jumped up from his chair and slammed it shut, grabbing my face and pushing me against the door as his mouth smashed into mine. He broke the kiss and his piercing blue eyes stared into mine. I missed him. My strength was shattered by his kiss. I took in a deep breath as I tried to regain it.
“You’re an asshole.”
“I know, and I’m sorry.”
