- Don't miss out!
“Okay, then don’t.”
“Well, since you really don’t want to know, maybe I’ll tell you a little bit.”
“It’s up to you.”
He leaned back in chair and studied me, trying to figure out what I was doing. To be honest, I wasn’t doing anything. The less I knew about him, the better off I’d be.
“Just answer me one question because I’m curious to know. “Why haven’t you married? I mean, look at you. You’re drop dead gorgeous. You can have any woman in the world. You’ve been with countless women, you’re incredibly rich, and yet you’ve never married.”
He picked up his glass and finished off his bourbon, never taking his eyes off of me.
“George Clooney is fifty-three and just married. Why did he wait so long?” he replied.
“George Clooney was married before.”
“No, he wasn’t,” Simon insisted.
“Yes, he was. He married his first wife when he was twenty-eight years old. It didn’t last long; only about four years.”
“Are you a Clooney addict or something? Do you have some secret obsession with him that I should know about?”
“He’s hot, but no. Giana was obsessed with him. She knows every little detail about him.”
“Ah, I see. Well, if he was only married for four years, then he waited another twenty-one years to marry his second wife.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.” I sighed.
“You want me to be completely honest with you?”
“Yes, I do.”
“I don’t have time for things like that. My main focus is my company and it’s going to be even more my focus when my grandfather passes away. I’ve seen too many successful men lose because they tried to juggle a career and family. The wife ends up nagging him to death because he’s never home, while he’s working late hours to keep the company successful. Meanwhile, the kids get out of control, the wife gets mad and is always yelling, and ultimately, he stays out later than he should, making excuses as to why he’s not going home. A home he can’t stand going to anymore.”
The waitress set down another glass of wine in front of me and I quickly took a sip.
“So he ends up fucking his secretary. The wife finds out. Divorces his sorry cheating ass and takes him for half of what he’s worth, if not all,” I spewed.
“Exactly! I couldn’t have said it better myself.”
“And you’ve seen this?” I asked.
“Of course I have. You need to remember who I am. I know and deal with successful corporate men around the world and it’s the same story. So there’s your answer.”
I held up my glass. “Cheers.” I smiled.
“Does that upset you?”
