  43. About the Author

“You can come clean about the allegations. All of them. You’ll have to pay a shit ton of money, yes, but it’s a good thing you’ve got all that stolen money to pull from, huh? Momentum is absolutely going to make you resign, and no one in this industry will hire you again, but would you rather forcibly retire on a boat somewhere tropical or would you rather spend the rest of your life behind bars?”

“I have more money than you and more power than you. I can easily make all of this disappear.”

“I don’t know if you know this but when you embezzle money, they don’t let you keep it.” I tip my head to the side, studying this man I was once afraid of. “You have power because you stole it from me and countless others. I’m taking it back. You should be grateful for the grace I’m extending you.”

“Your grace? You are a waste of space. You’re the reason your mother left us and yet I still poured all my time and resources into making you a star and this is how you repay me.”

Once upon a time, those words would’ve cut me. Now they barely break the skin.

“I don’t care why she left. The two of you didn’t deserve me, so consider this your severance package. You make it right with Kai, Dante, and the others and you get to keep your freedom. You step one toe out of line, I will ruin you. You ever try to contact me again, I will ruin you. Those are the terms. There are no other options.”

I fling the file at him, letting the papers float to the floor around him. “Here, you can keep those. I’ve got plenty more copies.”

Former COO of Momentum, Jason Harding, Confesses To Witness Intimidation. Steps Down From Position.

Have I mentioned that I love flying private? Kai and I are making the most of all this space, barely able to keep our hands off of each other after today’s headline.

We had a commercial flight booked, but Tyson called and insisted I take his plane in celebration so here we are, joining the Mile High Club in style.

I love Portland in April. It rains a lot and the temperatures can be a mixed bag, but the delicate bloom of flowers visible this time of year is always a wonder to behold. I have so much to show Kai for his first time here, but first I grab us an Uber to get to our most important reason for this visit.
