- About the Author
My father commences yet another silent battle of wills with me, but I’ve got all the will in the world now. He seems to come to his senses and shake out of it. “Cory, excuse us for a moment. You know how daughters are.”
“Sure, we’ll touch base later.” He nods at me on his way out but I don’t acknowledge it. Fuck him and every other misogynistic asshole at this company.
“What do you want, Liv? I thought you would’ve come to me begging for Kai’s livelihood back by now, but you must not really care about him.”
“Why would I beg you for something he didn’t lose?”
He smiles. “It’s only a matter of time. He’s losing clients left and right. The accusations will only keep coming.”
“No, they won’t.”
“Excuse me?”
“You’re excused. I actually came here to offer you the chance to beg me for your livelihood.”
At this, he bends over in a full belly laugh. Good, I look forward to the moment I shove that laughter back down his throat and make him choke on it.
“And what would I possibly beg you for? Please enlighten me.”
I hand him the file and let him read for himself.
There it is. The draining of color from his face. The fall of that sadistic grin from his face. The angry scowl meant to hide the utter fear traveling through his blood.
I grab the file back from him and open to the first page. “Let’s see, there’s all the proof of the threats and bribes you made to countless women to force them to make false sexual assault allegations against Dante Moore and Kai Morris and a few others. There’s also the proof of the threats and bribes thrown at numerous athletes to get them to accuse Kai of scamming. Being as they’re all athletes endorsed by Momentum, I’m sure the public is going to eat that up. Now, sadly, I know all of that means nothing at the end of the day. You’ll settle out of court in the civil cases, cough up a ridiculous amount of cash, and beat all criminal charges. It’s disgusting but I’m not naive enough to think that’s not how this world works. What you can’t beat, though? The proof of your embezzlement from Momentum over the last fifteen years. Now one thing big corporations don’t like is when you steal their money. They’ll happily throw your ass to the wolves after that, and you’ll trade in your beautiful home for a six by six cell. Now ask me what you can do to stop me from releasing this?”
“You honestly think that—”
I raise my hand to silence him. “I said ask me what you can do to stop me?”
His jaw tightens and I can see his mind working overtime. “What can I do?”
