- About the Author
“Thank you,” we say in unison. Kai kisses my forehead and then grabs plates for both of us while I grab two glasses of orange juice. I feel eyes on me, but when I look up I don’t find any.
Shane asks if we’re going back to the resort today but Simone cuts him off. “I’m sorry, are we going to act like we didn’t all hear them putting in work last night? Had me missing my toy and had Sasha ready to call her man.”
The kitchen falls silent and then we all burst out laughing. “Oops, sorry guys,” I offer.
“You can be sorry that I didn’t think to bring my toy because that shit was hot.”
Kai shakes his head in mock embarrassment, but I see the grin he hides behind his hand.
Everyone decides that we should head back to the resort today, so we all disperse to change and get ready, but I’m drawn to Kai’s voice in the living room. He doesn’t sound angry but he sounds annoyed. I only catch the tail end of his conversation before he hangs up and heads in my direction.
“What was that about?”
He sighs. “That was Faith. Another client canceled their therapy with me.”
“Wait, what? Another? This isn’t the first one?”
“No, one canceled the other day too.”
“Did they say why?”
“They opted to use another service.” Fuck. I knew the quiet couldn’t be trusted. “It might not be him. I’ve had this happen before.”
“No, nothing’s coincidence with him.” I stomp off to our room in search of my phone and when I find it, I dial the monster in question.
“Jason Harding’s phone.” My lip snarls at the voice on the other line. Myra. Answering my dad’s phone on a Saturday. I guess they’ve given up all pretense of a professional-only relationship.
“Hello, Myra. Can you please put my father on the phone?”
“Oh, hello Olivia.” I roll my eyes. I called his cell phone so she damn well knew it was me. Bitch. “Sorry, he’s not available at the moment. Can I take a message?”
“As a matter of fact, you can. You can tell him to back the fuck down.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Tell him to back the fuck down and stay out of my business, and yes, that business does include Kai.”
“You never did learn any respect, did you?”
“Respect is earned. And Myra?”
“Yes?”
“You can stay the fuck out of my business too.” I hang up before she can reply.
It’s been a couple of hours since I left my message for my dad. He hasn’t called me back, but I didn’t really expect that. I’m not sure what I am expecting though. Kai sent our friends off to the resort without us, but all we’ve done is sit here since they left.
