- About the Author
The bar has low blue lighting with a spotlight on the dark slate stage. The red leather couches are lower to the ground with glass coffee tables in front of them. It gives off more of a lounge feel than I was expecting, but I love it.
When we walk in, a light-brown-skinned, bald-headed man is killing “I Wanna Know” by Joe. He looks to stand at about six feet tall and he has on designer jeans, a fitted, long-sleeved navy blue shirt, and one of Momentum’s most popular shoes—the Momentum threes in the blue, gray, and white colorway. The women in the audience are going crazy over him, and he’s eating this shit up like he’s a real performer. Kai and I laugh as we make our way to a couple of empty barstools. We order wings just as Joe Jr. finishes up his song, and we continue cheering everyone on throughout the night—the mother and daughter duo who sing Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” the woman I assume to be close to my age butchering Selena’s “Como La Flor,” and the group of college girls singing Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills.” The whole time, Kai stays in constant physical contact with me. Whether it’s his hand squeezing my thigh, his arm wrapping around my shoulder, or his lips bending down to whisper in my ear, some piece of him is always touching me and I live for it. My body is so in tune with him at all times.
“Okay, y’all. Next up, Kai and Olivia want to sing ‘The Boy is Mine.’ Give it up for them!”
What the fuck? I shift in my seat, sure that I heard the emcee wrong, but when I turn and meet Kai’s expectant eyes, I know I didn’t.
“Kai, what the fuck did you do?”
He doesn’t bother responding with words. He just stands up and holds his hand out for me to grab. Damn, I want to be mad at him. I really do. But the appearance of that damn gorgeous dimple makes all my anger dissipate. Fuck it. I grab his hand and rush around him so that I’m leading him to the stage instead of the other way around.
“Good song choice. Ready to be my Brandy?”
He smirks as he adjusts his mic stand. “Ready to be whatever your fine ass wants me to be.”
