- About the Author
I squeeze his hand with understanding. I do appreciate him taking my goals into consideration. If we go through with this, I’m going to have one hell of road getting back to soccer, if I even can. I don’t even know if I would be able to handle coming back to school once the baby is born. The thing is I don’t know if I’m severely overestimating my skills or if I’m just being young, dumb, and naive, but I truly believe that we can have it all. Since those two little lines appeared on the test, and then appeared on five more tests, I’ve been in preparation mode. I’m pregnant. We’re having a baby. Kai majors in kinesiology with the hopes of becoming a physical therapist, and I major in sports management so that I’ll have a backup plan if soccer doesn’t work out. If my dad’s career-ending injury taught me anything, it’s that I don’t want to become jaded like him, so I need to be prepared for any and all possibilities. I didn’t expect that becoming a mom at nineteen would be one of those possibilities, but we’re here now and I don’t regret it. I want this. Between Kai, me, and his family, I really think we can make this work.
I pull Kai’s signature move and kiss him on his forehead, his nose, and his lips. “I love you too, Kai Morris. I could never regret you. I’m in if you are.”
He laughs and buries his face in my neck. “Is it crazy that I’m kind of excited?”
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda pumped to see what a little you and me looks like.”
He wraps me up tight in a hug, and I melt into his embrace. “I’m telling you now though, if it’s a boy and you try to name him any variation of David, Cristiano, Morris, or Usher we will have problems.”
I choke on the laughter that falls from my lips and slip into a coughing fit. He’s still so bent out of shape that I told him he’s definitely in my top five of men I want to be with, but I wouldn’t tell him where he falls among David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Morris Chestnut, and Usher.
“Not even a middle name?”
He narrows his eyes at me and I burst out laughing. “If you weren’t carrying my seed, I’d body-slam you into this bed right now.”
“What about a different kind of body slam?”
“What kind?”
“The kind where I lie down gently and you have your way with me.” I barely get the last word out before he’s stripping off his shorts. “I was joking. Aren’t you about to go hoop with the boys?”
