Kurt grinned. “I’ll never live that down, will I?”
Returning a smile, Michael shook his head. “Nope. Not when your so-called smallpox outbreak turned out to be nothing more than a hangover and a mosquito bite.”
Preslee bit her lip to keep from giggling.
Kurt shifted his weight. “Hey, some of the symptoms were the same. I had a headache, nausea, vomiting, and a bump suddenly appeared on my forehead…”
“Most of those are symptoms of everything,” Adam said, smirking. “I’m just glad the bump wasn’t bigger and didn’t appear on your stomach. You might’ve thought you were pregnant.”
Everyone laughed. Even Kurt, who wore a good-natured smile and took their ribbing in stride. “Don’t forget I have things on both of you guys. Like that time Adam asked out that pretty model, and she—”
“Okay, okay,” Adam said quickly. “We don’t need to go there.”
Preslee winced internally, although she wasn’t really all that surprised that Adam dated models. A guy who looked like him could probably have any woman he wanted. Models included.
Michael coughed. “Or what about that time Adam was sixteen and got caught looking at dirty magazines? I thought Mom was going to strangle him.”
Preslee sighed. It wasn’t all that shocking to find out Adam—along with a lot of the male population—had looked at naked pictures of pretty women when he was a teenager. Especially if the guy was into models. He’d apparently been judging women by their looks for years.
“Enough,” Adam said, aggravation embedded in his tone. He glanced over at Kurt. “Don’t you have work to do?” He didn’t wait for a response before turning his hard gaze onto his brother. “And you. You’re about one sentence away from sleeping in your car tonight.”
Michael grinned. “I think that’s my cue to get going.”
“Good plan,” Adam agreed. “Kurt, my keys are on my desk in the office. Can you please give them to Michael? He’s going to need them to get into my apartment.”
“Don’t suppose you still have any of those dirty magazines under your bed, do you?” Michael asked, waggling his brows.
Adam blew out a hard breath. “Would you leave already?”
“Hmm. Well, that wasn’t a no.” Wearing an amused grin, his brother turned toward Preslee. “It was nice to meet you.”
“Same to you,” she replied. “I hope to see you again.”
“You will…at the mud run next weekend,” he said with a quick wink.
She smiled politely. “I guess so.”
Michael smirked and then followed Kurt toward the office just as Adam called out, “No snooping through my stuff before I get home.”
His brother waved a hand in the air dismissively.
As they watched him leave, Preslee said, “So that’s your brother, huh?”
“Yeah.”
“Any other siblings?”
