Not that he could tell her that. The bet situation had gotten out of hand, and he already felt like an ass. He didn’t really want to look like one to her as well. Especially since she’d only enriched his life since the first day he’d stumbled onto her. Actually, she’d stumbled into him. Didn’t matter. Either way, the more time he spent with her, the more he liked her. Her spunky personality, her kindness, her sweetness. Even her clumsiness was endearing.

Which was a problem.

Training Preslee was doubly challenging because of his attraction to her. He never thought he’d be in a position where he would develop feelings for one of his clients. He’d always been so careful about drawing boundaries and—

Wait. Did I just admit that I have feelings for her?

Adam sighed. This was so not good.

He firmly believed a trainer dating his client was unacceptable and irresponsible. So he wouldn’t go there. But eventually, he would no longer be working with her on a professional level. Only then would he feel comfortable asking her out. Until then, he had no choice but to wait it out. And hope that Josh hadn’t knocked him out of the race. Which was exactly what it felt like at the moment.

Preslee had already made it clear that she wanted Josh. Maybe she wasn’t even attracted to Adam. During their workouts, there had been times when he thought she might be flirting, but the woman loved to joke around. Was it possible that those times he thought she was flirting, she was just kidding around instead?

Adam had never in his life been so upside-down over a woman before, much less doubted himself to this degree. He’d always been confident and secure in his ability to attract a woman. Yet Preslee didn’t really seem all that interested. At least not in him. She was too busy trying to get Josh to notice her.

A voice broke through the invisible fog surrounding him. “Adam.”

His head snapped up. “Huh?”

Preslee giggled. “Did you not get enough sleep last night? You seem to be spacing out.”

“Oh, sorry. I…uh, haven’t been sleeping well lately.” Because he couldn’t stop thinking about her.

“Is something bothering you?”

Definitely. The thought of him not being able to ask the beautiful, voluptuous woman in front of him out, all because she was his client and hung up on a guy who was blind as a mole. “No, I’m fine.”

“Good,” she said, casually twining her arm into his. “So what are we working on today, friend?”

Friend? Well, that was just great. He’d accidentally called her baby, yet all he got in return was being friend zoned. Perfect. He might as well go ahead and buy her and Josh a wedding gift now.
