Preslee leaned back in her chair and rolled her eyes so hard that they hurt. Oh God. Just stop already. That’s nothing more than a fairy tale you keep telling yourself. It’s never going to happen.

She sighed in frustration. While Josh might be the man of her dreams, she apparently wasn’t the woman of his.

Over the past few weeks, either her feeble attempts at casual flirting had gone unnoticed or Josh had purposely ignored the subtle overtures altogether. Actually, he hadn’t paid any more attention to her than a customer would a dusty lampshade tucked away in a dimly lit corner on the gallery floor.

Darn it. This was exactly why she liked for a guy to make the first move. She’d never been good at reading men, much less figuring out what their intentions were. Sadly, in Josh’s case, he didn’t seem to have any whatsoever. At least not in regard to her.

It wasn’t because he was dating someone. Greg had already informed her that Josh was as single as a one-dollar bill…and that he wasn’t gay. Although why the two of them had even had that conversation was still one of the great mysteries of the world that would probably never be solved.

Whatever. It didn’t matter. The end result was the same, and although it stung a little, one thing was perfectly clear. Josh wasn’t interested.

And she knew why.

Preslee glanced down at her figure and pursed her lips. Although she had a pretty face and great hair—at least that was what others had told her—she was the heaviest she’d ever been and didn’t feel attractive. So she couldn’t really blame the guy if he wasn’t feeling it either.

Maybe Josh just wasn’t into curvy women. Big deal. Not all guys were. Or maybe it was her own discomfort with her recent weight gain that he found unattractive. After all, confidence was sexy. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t something she’d ever had much of when it came to her body.

So while the two of them might be perfect on paper, that probably meant little when compared to sexual chemistry. That was important. Because everyone needs to feel wanted, including her. Especially her. She longed to feel a man’s desire and to know that he craved every inch of her body. No matter what size she was. Because if she didn’t have that, then what was the point in being with someone at all?

She wasn’t one of those women who believed they had to be skinny to snare a man. After all, she’d had boyfriends before. But what she did believe was that attraction sometimes grew between two people unexpectedly.
