Adam watched as her legs came to a slow stop and then she slid off the spin cycle with pinched lips. She didn’t look happy. Then she did something that he hadn’t expected. Glancing up, she noticed him peering in her direction and quickly turned away. His gut clenched as unease settled over him. He didn’t know why her reaction bothered him, but…well, it did.

Kurt stepped up beside him, gazing over at Preslee. “Did you give her some advice on using the equipment? Like how to use the safety clips?”

Adam nodded. “Yeah, I was thorough.”

His friend smirked. “I’m sure you were. I bet all the female clients love that about you.”

Adam cocked his head, annoyance coursing through him. “I showed her how to use the stair-climber, idiot. It wasn’t anything sexual.”

Kurt shrugged one shoulder. “Really? Because I was watching, and it looked like you were over there smelling her hair.” His mouth curved. “If you play your cards right, she might take you home and let you sniff the rest of her.”

“You know, if you worried more about your own sex life instead of mine, you might actually get some once in a while.”

“I get plenty.”

“Your hand doesn’t count.”

Kurt snorted. “Touché.” Then he nodded toward Preslee as she moved on to a rowing machine. “You know, she’s like a rubber ball, bouncing from one machine to the next. She’s all over the place and doesn’t seem to stay on one machine long enough to get a good workout. That isn’t helping. Even if she’s circuit training, she’s moving around too fast.”

Adam didn’t know why, but he felt the need to defend her. “I think she’s just trying to feel them out.”

“Or maybe she’s never exercised a day in her life.”

Adam frowned. “Why do you say that? Because she’s got curves?”

“What? No. Of course not.” Kurt shook his head adamantly. “That isn’t what I meant. I can just tell she’s inexperienced, that’s all. She’s skittish of being here and doesn’t know what to do with any of the machines. She’s clearly never used them before.”

“Maybe, but she can learn. And we’ll probably be seeing a lot more of her since she told me she’s here to lose weight. Apparently she’s starting an exercise regimen.”

“Good for her,” Kurt said, nodding his approval. “So what happened over there earlier? Did she start the machine up too fast and couldn’t keep up with it?”

Adam shook his head. “No. She was doing a live update on some vlog she runs. When she ended the video, she apparently hit a button on the machine, and it sped up suddenly.”

Kurt paused before pulling out his phone and then began typing.

Adam regarded him a moment before asking, “What are you doing?”
