Sure, it would be hard to continue her exercise regimen without Adam’s guidance or the use of his gym, but she could do it. As he’d said before, he was only a tool. But she had shown up and put in the hard work.
So, beginning tomorrow, she was going to focus her energy into finishing what she’d started. She was going to have to do it without his help, but she needed to make it to her goal. Just to prove to herself that she could.

Preslee sat patiently in the waiting room until the nurse called her back and took her vitals. Afterward, she was left in a small room alone, sitting on the crinkly white paper that made a ton of sound whenever she so much as shifted an eyeball in a different direction.
A few days ago, she’d undergone another new round of blood work, and this was her follow-up visit where she would receive her latest test results. For some strange reason, Dr. Fowler had wanted to see her in person this time, whereas last time he had given the results to her directly over the phone.
Normally, they wouldn’t have repeated the blood work again so soon, but Dr. Fowler insisted that they reorder the tests after a couple months since he would be retiring and wanted to wrap up any cases before passing them over to the new doctor in town.
And that had been one of the reasons Preslee had wanted to avoid coming in to Dr. Fowler’s office. The last thing she wanted to do was run into Adam’s brother, Michael…er, Dr. Caldwell. While she didn’t think he was the type to treat her poorly just because she had dumped his brother a few weeks ago, she also didn’t want to chance an awkward conversation with him either. Thankfully, he hadn’t been around when she had arrived.
A knock sounded on the door, and Dr. Fowler opened it and stepped inside. He dropped down on the short stool and rolled himself closer to her. He smiled. “How have you been, Preslee?”
“Doing great. How are you?”
He gave his usual reply when asked that question. “Old and grumpy.” Then he leafed through her file, pulled out some paperwork, and began reading over it. “These are your test results,” he stated. “Do you know what they say?”
How the heck would she know that? “Um, no. Is it good news or bad news?”
“Both.”
She wasn’t sure how it could possibly be both unless she’d fixed one problem while something else had gotten out of whack. “Which one are you giving me first?”
He gazed at her. “Here’s the good news. You are officially no longer in the prediabetic range. Congratulations.”
“Really? Wow, that’s great to hear. Thank you,” she said, her mouth curving into a smile.
