Still on edge, Adam slumped in his chair in misery. He needed to get a handle on all of the raw urges and sensations spiraling through him. So he would maintain his distance while silently observing her from afar.

What was wrong with him? He wasn’t supposed to be looking at her this way. Clearly, he was losing his ever-loving mind. Because that one sexy dance had put an enormous crack in his control.

He wanted her. All of her. And he didn’t want to share her with Josh, who was so blatantly wrong for a woman like Preslee that it wasn’t even funny. She was charming, playful, and so damn sweet. While Josh couldn’t seem to spot a good woman standing directly in front of him.

Adam glanced across the room and caught sight of them again. Only this time, Josh was talking to another woman while Preslee stood there waiting patiently. Her eyes met Adam’s, and she gave him a weak smile. A fake one at that.

Was Josh flirting with the other woman? Because from where Adam stood, it sure looked like it. Man, if so, Preslee had to be so disappointed.

But when Adam watched Josh leave Preslee by herself to head to a table with the other woman, anger seared his insides. That was it. He’d had enough of Preslee being ignored by that idiot. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea for him to react when he was so heated, but he didn’t care.

Tuning out the cacophony of the crowded bar, Adam marched across the room toward Preslee, weaving through bodies as fast as he could. She saw him approaching, and there must’ve been something predatory in the way he moved because she looked nervous.

Good. She should be. Because he wasn’t playing around anymore. Josh was going to notice this beautiful, sexy woman even if he had to pick Preslee up and beat the moron over the head with her.

Adam stopped in front of Preslee, and the aroma of raw coconuts and sweet, fresh pineapple sent his blood humming through his veins. “Do you want Josh?” he asked her hastily.

She paused, as if stunned by his candor. “Um…”

Adam didn’t even wait for her to finish her answer. He had asked on a whim, but he had no doubt she would say yes, and damn it, he didn’t want to listen to that. Not from her. He didn’t want to hear that she wanted another man.

He stepped into her space, and her eyes widened. His hand slid around the back of her neck as he lowered his lips to her ear. “Just how far are you willing to go to get him?” he asked.

She hesitated to answer again, and her awkwardness only made her even more endearing. “Um, how far?” she asked, her voice shaky.
