Brett had attested to Sam’s fair prices since he had apparently done some work in Brett’s new auto shop. Max was Sam’s best friend, as well as the electrician that the man used on all of his jobs. And Nathan, otherwise known as Nate, actually worked for Sam full-time as his job foreman.
Nate had really been the most help. He had introduced Adam to his boss. And then, as the two of them discussed the cost to erect a few walls inside the gym, Nate had spoken up and reminded Sam of how they still had some unused building materials left over from a previous job that he’d wanted to part with. After that, a little unexpected horse trading had taken place.
Sam hadn’t hesitated to offer the building materials to Adam at a deep discount, while Adam had offered up yearlong gym memberships to Sam and any of his employees who showed up after hours to help with the work. Even though they wouldn’t be getting paid in cash, four of Sam’s guys had voluntarily shown up, including Nate. And with his expertise, they had formed a skeleton crew and knocked the entire job out in only two nights.
One newly constructed wall separated the weight room from the rest of the gym, while the other new walls sectioned off an entire area specifically for yoga classes. And since the dietitian had agreed to use Adam’s office, he hoped that all of the changes they’d made would help his members—new and old alike—feel more comfortable and less intimidated in the gym. Especially when it came to Preslee.
He’d barely finished the thought when someone came swinging through the gym doors, catching his attention. Speak of the devil.
But when he glanced in the direction of the doors, he saw it wasn’t Preslee at all. It was Max and Nate. “Hey, what are you two doing back here? You didn’t get enough of me for the past two nights?”
Max grinned. “It must be that pretty face of yours.”
Nate chuckled. “Or maybe it’s that hard body.”
Adam shook his head. Smart-asses. “Yeah, yeah. Seriously though. Did you guys need something?”
Nate nodded. “Yep, my tools. I left a few of them here last night. Kurt said he would keep them in your office until I got off work.”
“But how did you get anything done today if you didn’t have your tools?” Adam asked, confused.
“He borrowed mine,” Max explained. “Which is why I’m here to make sure he gets his back. Borrowing another man’s power tools is like asking to borrow his woman. You just don’t do it.” Then Max glared at Nate.
Nate chuckled and raised his hands innocently in the air, as if surrendering. “Whoa, I didn’t ask to borrow Jessa.”
