She blushed furiously. “Yes. I’m sorry if I worried you. I was just a little dehydrated. I feel better now that they’ve pumped some IV fluids into me.”

“Good. I’m glad to hear it,” Michael told her.

But Adam was confused. People didn’t usually pass out just because they were a little dehydrated. She’d probably been slightly dehydrated dozens of times while they’d worked out together, yet she’d never passed out on him before. Something was off about that explanation, but he didn’t know what. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine.” She wrung her hands together. “I, uh, didn’t remember how I got here until they said a man carried me. I’m assuming that was you.”

“Yeah, it was me,” Adam replied, running an unsteady hand through his hair. “When you collapsed, it scared the hell out of me. I got you here as fast as I could.”

Her pink cheeks deepened in color. “I’m sorry.”

“You don’t need to keep apologizing. I just want to make sure you’re all right. That’s the important thing.” His eyes flitted over her, looking for any sign that she wasn’t as okay as she claimed to be. “You are, right?”

“No permanent damage,” she said with a half smile. “They wanted to transport me to the emergency room to get checked out, but I refused. There’s no point. I feel fine. Once they gave me some fluids to counteract the dehydration, my vitals all returned to normal.”

Michael cut in, his low voice filled with concern. “Maybe you should go to the hospital and get checked out anyway. Just in case.”

She shook her head. “No, that’s okay. I’m seriously fine. Honest.”

Michael sighed. “Would you allow me to take a look at you then? I’d feel much better if you were checked over more thoroughly and given a proper assessment. Free of charge, of course.” He winked at her.

Adam wasn’t sure if his brother was flirting with her or if he was actually concerned something might be wrong. It better have been the latter. But either way, Adam liked the idea of her getting looked at by a doctor. Even if it was his brother. “Good idea,” he agreed.

Preslee exchanged glances with both of them. “Well, since you two are ganging up on me, I guess I don’t have much of a choice, do I?” Then she grinned. “All right. Fine. But can we go back to my place to do this? I’d rather not draw any more attention here than I already have.”

“No,” Adam said, not wanting to leave her alone for the night. “We’ll go back to my apartment. It’s closer.”

“Okay,” she said. “But I’m telling you, I’m all right. This is a waste of time.”

Michael shrugged. “That’s for me to determine.”
