“Too much control?” He huffed. “He runs in circles with this argument,” Lorcan said in a complaint to Dullahan--always running to daddy. Dullahan rolled his eyes at both of us and groaned.
“Stop hounding him,” Dullahan said to me with a green-eyed glare. I didn’t understand the relationship between the two of them. It was as if Dullahan was his daddy. And yet, the Dullahan was no one's daddy. He was a surly, mean sonofabitch to everyone. Even me, despite our friendship. Not his precious incubus though.
I swallowed the rest of my drink as I eyed them. They had to be fucking and if Lorcan could turn the Dullahan into his protector, then I was terrified of what he could do to me. I could feel his power’s pull despite his mad attempt to subdue his demonic powers.
Maybe the council had the right idea trying to take us out. Shame I liked living.
I pushed my chair a few inches to the right. A little more space between the incubus and I couldn’t hurt.
“We’ll use my casino now,” I said as my eyes dragged over the hundreds of pictures pinned around the room. Pale rainbow hair, shiny pink lips, smirks for days, and flashy like no one else could be. I’d never seen a more perfect being.
“You mean your skin suit’s casino?” Lorcan asked with distaste as he eyed me. Unfortunately, his eyes on my body made goosebumps reappear.
“My skin isn’t your concern so be a good kid and keep your salacious eyes off it,” I told him with fake nonchalance. His eyes trailed up to mine. The red centers remained but the whites of his eyes began to vein in black.
“Constantly teasing an incubus. How courageous,” he purred, sounding octaves deeper. His normally clipped voice was now a taunting purr. His muscles relaxed, his body draping in the chair like a narcissistic god. Horns began to sprout from his head. It was like he was an entirely different person. Shivers went up my spine. These glimpses of his demonic side were unsettling.
“Lorcan,” Dullahan sighed. Lorcan snapped his eyes shut and his entire body took on a new tension as he grit his teeth. Not even a moment later he relaxed and popped his eyes open, revealing they were back to white. The horns were completely gone too.
“Let’s just pretend that didn’t happen,” he said with a straight face, back to brushing out invisible wrinkles in his shirt.
“This is what has me concerned,” I sighed, waving towards him. He starved and denied himself. It was a recipe for disaster.
“How are we getting her to your casino?” Dullahan asked, moving the conversation along.
“I’ll invite her, of course.” I smiled at them. “Maybe I’ll catch her before Lorcan gets a chance to fail.”
“Why would I fail?” Lorcan asked while I shot an amused look at the Dullahan. The incubus didn’t understand Irish magic as we did. It was always a weird sort of thing and leprechauns were just as tricky as the rest of us.
