  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“Yours?” Lorcan asked.

“Aye. He’s a nuisance but the Council shouldn’t stick their noses in it.” I hesitated. “And you’re mine too.” He knew it but I felt it good to repeat it. His eyes flashed to Puca before he looked down at his own body.

“Are you jealous?” Lorcan asked. I tipped my head to the side.

“Jealous?” I asked.

“Nevermind,” he said quickly. “Forget it.” I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. I hadn’t a fucking clue what to do with Lorcan. I felt like every choice ended up a bad one.

“I worry about you,” I said.

“I know,” he sighed, looking annoyed. “Like I’m your relative,” he said with disdain.

“Jaysus,” I muttered, stomping over to him. “What do you want from me, Lorcan?”

“Isn’t it obvious?” He asked.

“Not in the fucking slightest,” I said. “Because sometimes you look so relieved when I don’t react to your seductive nature. Like a great weight has been taken off you. Then other times you act disappointed.” Lorcan looked distraught by my words. I sighed and grabbed his face, holding it in my palm.

“Don’t look so tormented,” I sighed. Honestly, Lorcan twisted me up so badly it had driven me to drink. Though the drinking was also an attempt to mute the lust. I felt like every choice I made with him was a mistake. Earlier felt like a colossal fuck up. I’d breached a physical relationship and then denied him when he tried to take it further. I just didn’t know if it was something he’d regret afterwards. He didn’t seem entirely in his right mind at the end.

He grabbed my shirt and pulled me closer. I let him pull me down until his lips gently pressed to mine—tentative and brief.

“Is that okay?” He whispered, black and red eyes boring into me.

“Everything is okay with you,” I murmured and he kissed me again, more confident, his arms wrapping around my body and his tongue pressing into my mouth. I held his head in my hands and kissed him back, my heart beating fast in my chest.

Did he really want this with me? And what was this? Was it feeding or was it something more? Could it be love?

“Tell me what you want from me,” I begged him in between kisses.

“I—” The building alarms began going off. I jerked upright and Lorcan pulled away. Puca grumbled from the ground, lifting his head and wiping drool from his mouth.

“What’s that?” He asked with a slur.

“It’s Remington or Lacey. At this point, I’m not sure who is a bigger pain in the arse.”

“You are the biggest pain in my ass,” Puca said, wincing as he dragged himself off the ground. The penthouse phone began ringing loudly, combining with the annoying alarms.

“Can’t anyone just let me sleep for a focking night?” I asked, stomping from the room.
