  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“I’m going to get your luck back. Remington is laying low. I’ve been searching for him.” I noticed there were bags under his eyes. He looked exhausted.

“You’ve been searching this whole time?” I asked.

“Mostly,” he said while Dullahan got off the ground, picking up the glass and eyeing his damp crotch.

“What’s it like out there now?” Dullahan asked.

“Nearing complete chaos but you already knew that, didn’t you?” Puca asked, a smile spreading over his face. “How did you know?” Dullahan frowned at Puca while I looked back and forth at them in confusion.

“I’ll get more water,” Dullahan grumbled, leaving the room.

“I don’t understand. What’s in chaos?”

“The entire island. It’s flooding and there’s some underground war spilling into the waterlogged streets—”

“Shen,” I sighed.

“Who or what is that?” Puca asked, eyes boring into me.

“Chinese god,” I said. “He’s at war with the werewolves, apparently,” I sighed. Puca hummed.

“There’s also the zombies and the typhoon—”

“What?” I asked.

“Apparently, this island was overdue for some bad luck and it’s coming all at once now that the floodgates have been let down. Do you understand, Lacey?” Puca’s golden eyes flicked between mine as he pressed his body a little closer in bed.

“Are you implying I have something to do with the fate of an entire island?” I asked slowly. Then I snorted and I lifted my arms to stretch, banging my hand on the headboard. “Ow!” I hissed. Puca grabbed my hand and kissed all the knuckles like he had before. I sighed.

Dullahan came back into the room with a glass of water. I grabbed it and tipped it back, completely parched. Half of it spilled all over my face and I began hacking.

“How am I supposed to live like this?” I growled, drenched. “This is normal?” I asked.

“Hard to say,” Puca said.

“No,” Dullahan said. He sat on the bed and sighed. He looked at the wall a moment before turning to us.

“Lacey isn’t a normal leprechaun,” he said.

“How do you know this?” Puca asked.

“I know it because she’s sidhe. Puca, christ. I told you, I’m king. I know things.”

“How do you know these things?”

“It’s like names. I know all sidhe’s names if I look at them. I can sense other things too. Lacey,” he shook his head, “there was something off from the start. I didn’t realize it until that night we raced. The first time we came face to face.”

“Something is off with me?” I asked.

“Yes, your power is abnormally high.”

“Oh well, I knew that. I’m the luckiest…I was the luckiest leprechaun,” I corrected myself with a grimace.

“No, you don’t get it. You aren’t just a little extra lucky. You are a…”

“What?” Puca asked impatiently.

“A god,” he finally said.

“What?” I asked in confusion. I couldn’t even process what he was saying. A god? Me?

“Lacey’s a god?” Puca asked with a smile. He chuckled, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me closer. He pressed his face into my neck, inhaling my scent before his teeth nipped at my ear.
