  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“This would be easier if you agreed to just go get her,” I said to my old friend.

“I’m not getting involved unless I have to,” Dullahan grunted.

“You’re resistant to leprechaun luck but refuse to get near them. So helpful,” I said while I eyed him, curiously.

“Luck doesn’t sound like much of a power,” Lorcan said.

“Luck is what will have us keep our heads when the hitmen come so you better start respecting it,” Dullahan grumbled out before snatching his short glass from the table. He tipped it back and gulped it all down. A big heaving sigh escaped him as he slammed the cup back down. He offered a cruel smile to me.

“There’s an easy way to get her to your casino,” he offered as he used his thumb to wipe at drops of liquor around the edge of his scarred mouth. His eyes flashed in amusement.

“How’s that?”

“Treasure. They’re as bad as dragons, wanting their heaps of gold.” He ran his fingers through his inky black hair. The bangs were long enough to slip into his eyes.

“It’s a casino,” I said blankly. He smiled widely and I eyed the scars that ran ear from ear. His smiles were always doomed to look sinister.

“Offer her more. Offer something big. She can walk in a casino anytime she wants.” He leaned on the table, his eyes twinkling. “Offer her a pot of gold.”

“Really?” Lorcan asked with a snort.

“Figuratively,” Dullahan dismissed, getting up to pour himself another drink. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he gulped it like water. Dullahan was always prone to drinking but this was more excessive than normal. We were all stressed from this council business.

“This isn’t my first rodeo. I came up with the private poker game and she came just as expected. I’ll come up with something for the casino and go see our girl tomorrow.”

“Don’t make her suspicious,” Dullahan growled.

“It’s much too late for that,” I said with a smile as I imagined her again. Her tight leather pants had hugged her ass as she twisted around on her bike, looking at me behind her.

My eyes landed back on Lorcan, wondering if he’d fuck this up. When people looked at him, they saw a man in control of his life. Clean, tidy, dressed perfectly, hair always in line.

What they didn’t know was he was always one little half breath away from destroying everyone around him. The only thing keeping his demonic needs at bay were very strained threads. I could almost see them fraying from here.

“I’ll get her here. You better not lose your shit,” I purred to Lorcan with a wink. The skin around his eyes tightened as he glared at me. Quickly I averted my eyes, not wanting to stare too long at him. See, I was at least trying to avoid self sabotage. I deserved a treat for that and I knew just what I wanted. A little more of Lacey, always.
